It worked! best time and money I've spent in months
Seen a video showing this could fix a HVAC calibration issue on my Mini, which was suprising since I had previously looked into a bidirectional tool that could perform this and came up with nothing. The cost was reasonable for me to give it a try, it arrived quickly so I gave it a go. Instructions for setup are subpar and it was a little clunky to get everything connected properly and working - BUT, it worked! I was able to reset, address and calibrate my HVAC actuators so the cars computer knew what to do with them, solving a problem that has cost me thousands of dollars at the dealer trying to get fixed and almost a year of discomfort while driving due to a HVAC system that didnt work right - solved with this tool. Total time invested from unboxing to test drive where my problem was corrected, about 90 minutes. Very happy with this purchase.

Does more than just scan and clear codes.
For the price, this thing is amazing. I haven't found much it can't do actually. I own a professional repair shop and we needed something to just do quick scans and clear codes. This fit the bill plus some. I've run DPF regenerations and several other bi-directional tests with it when my other scanners were being used. I'd recommend this to just about anyone that doesn't need the professional version. It does way more than the price point suggests.

WARNING: AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS
WARNING: AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS – It's a Total Scam and Waste of Money! I regret to my core falling for the hype and purchasing this device. What was marketed as a reliable diagnostic tool quickly revealed itself to be an overpriced, dysfunctional, and frankly, scam-like product designed to milk you for recurring "subscriptions" while delivering absolutely abysmal performance. Save yourself the frustration, time, and money, and look elsewhere. Here's why you should steer clear: The Hidden Subscription Trap (The Biggest Scam!): They lure you in with an initial price, but after a year, your device becomes virtually useless unless you cough up an annual subscription fee (around $50-$60, nearly the cost of the device itself!). This isn't for "updates" that keep pace with new car models; it's to maintain basic functionality like reading engine codes that even a $10 OBD scanner can do for life. My device stopped reading engine codes entirely after a year without payment. This is a deliberate bait-and-switch, turning a one-time purchase into an endless, unwarranted expense. App & Software are Absolute Trash: Internet Dependent & Login Issues: The app requires a constant internet connection and frequent logins, which often drop, making it a "PITA" to use, especially in areas with spotty Wi-Fi like a garage. Terrible User Interface: The GUI is poorly designed, ugly, and uses super small, unreadable fonts. Fragmented, Annoying Features: Basic scanning features are compartmentalized and defragmented. You have to scan airbags, ABS, etc., separately, each time confirming VINs and enduring idiotic buzzing sounds reminding you to disconnect – even if you just want to switch features. Bloated with Useless Stuff: The app is full of irrelevant notifications, emails, and product updates nobody cares about, detracting from its core purpose. Unreliable Connectivity & Compatibility: Constant Disconnects: Even when you're literally a meter away, the connection to your car is incredibly unstable and frequently drops. VIN Recognition Fails: Often fails to auto-read VIN numbers, forcing manual entry. Limited Car Brands: Despite the premium price, it surprisingly lacks support for common car brands (like Lada/Renault, which even a cheap AliExpress OBD supports). You must double-check if your specific car is supported, as their promises are misleading. Fails at Basic Diagnostics: Missing Crucial Data: Despite hours of searching, simple, essential data like coolant temperature graphs (critical for tasks like burping a cooling system) are inexplicably unavailable. My old $10 AliExpress OBD scanner did this effortlessly in seconds. Overall Ineffectiveness: In the end, this expensive device often failed to help with even simple diagnostic tasks, forcing me to rely on my ancient, cheap, and far more effective backup scanner. Non-Existent Customer Service: When I reached out about the subscription issue, they summarily closed my ticket as 'Solved' without any resolution or further communication. Their customer support is as useless as their product. This device is not just poor quality; it's a predatory product. The "first free year" is a deceptive trial that locks you into perpetual payments for a tool that barely works. Don't be another victim of this "bamboozle." Stick to established, reliable brands or even budget-friendly generic options that offer better performance without the recurring extortion. This was a total waste of money and time.

Definitely buy it!
The Bluetooth capability means I can connect to my iOS and Android devices without any hassle, and the app interface is user-friendly, making it easy to navigate through the various features. What I particularly appreciate is the bi-directional scanning; it allows me to not only read trouble codes but also perform active tests, which is fantastic for pinpointing issues. One of the standout features is the yearly subscription, which provides full access to all the premium features, including repair guides and detailed diagnostics. The first year is complimentary, which is a great way to get accustomed to everything the scanner offers. After the first year, you have the option to continue the subscription for full access or stick with the basic functionalities—it still works perfectly fine without the perks, but having complete access is undeniably a huge benefit. The fact that it supports all systems diagnostics is a game-changer. Whether it’s for a simple code read or more complex issues, I feel empowered to handle a wide range of repairs. The performance tests and hot resets have also been handy for me, making the whole repair process smoother. In conclusion, if you're in the market for a reliable and versatile OBD2 scanner, and compatibility I highly recommend the TOPDON TopScan Lite. With its impressive features and ease of use, it’s definitely worth the investment. Plus, the annual subscription offers a chance to delve deeper into vehicle diagnostics without any upfront cost. This tool has made my automotive troubleshooting so much easier, and I can’t see myself going back!

Unlike think car, topdon Does work on Apple iOS.
Update 07-17-2025. subscription has ended and decided not to renew. there have been plenty of function updates in 1 year but for ford it is still missing specific special functions and global OBD2 standard is not there to get raw data. it is good for weekend mechanics but for serious work on your car it is not geared up for that. Update 8-26-2024. Found a few issues with missing functions and contacted topdon. They responded quickly asking about brand and type of vehicle device was used and in and few days later responded again that I can update everything and reconnect to the vehicle and verify proper functions. They quickly took care of an issue and the topdon functions like a champ. Thinkdiag on the other hand has continued to slide down the slope and is hitting rock bottom with function and support. Thinktool thinkdiag has been turned into a paperweight. I have had a thinkcar diag dongle since kickstarter program, quit using it after they stopped fixing software issues with iPhone iOS and was no longer bidirectional and then my lifetime access to 2 cars disappeared. When thinkcar told me to get an android phone to be able to use it again I told them forget it and I will switch brands.. Great news is that topdon is working great on Apple iOS. In fact it works better than thinkcar ever did from day one. Gave the topdon a test run today and had zero issues and the format is more or less the same with only a few differences and the extension cable from the other one fits perfectly as well. For me a dongle and an iPad is more cost affective for me than buying a stand alone diag that over time is outdated and you are stuck with buying a new one and since I get a new iPad Pro every 2-3 years there is no addition cost I have to worry about.

Does a lot depending on the car
I am reviewing this for one vehicle at this time, a 2007 Subaru Forester X. I will get into the details about that in a bit but let's get general. It's free for the first year, but if it's still being used and you can catch a sale... But be smart, you can make another email. I would just buy a new unit on sale for like $60, BAM! You just got a new unit and another year. Some may be upset about the limitations, but let's be honest if it works for you it is still by far the cheapest I've found to do ANY bidirectional kung fu. It's ui isn't great, but poke around and you can get a hold of quite a bit. It will scan for your VIN, and then your model range or exact year. You can put it in manually but it finds mine quick so I haven't tried it. From what I see you need to scan the "BCM" or mini computer of each part. So you scan the main ECU and it will give you the general things which is pretty limited for me. It does offer many different cars and you download each individual car's database. So for my SUV it's old, but it does what I need. Kinda. So my main reasoning was the difficulty in getting my throttle body to relearn itself properly. It has an easy procedure if your A/C system is good, mine is not. Topscan says it can do the throttle relearn, but it simply gives instructions to restart, run for 10 seconds and it's done. It is not indeed done, nothing changed. The magic is to control your idle, which was why it needs to relearn the throttle but since that didn't work eventually if it's driven enough and isn't dying at every stop it relearns itself. So the trick is there is an idle adjustment. It's in a separate section, but it is rudimentary yet it'll do. So it starts off at whatever rpm your engine is by 25. So it tells me it's at 825rpm... It lies my tach an loping motor says under 600rpm. So here's what you do, there's the ability to add or subtract in denominations of 50 but the RPM accuracy isn't great so here's what I did. I put mine up to 1075 RPM and you press start. I believe it won't stop until you press the stop button. It 100% keeps my car from dying when coming to a stop or just any time the clutch is in and I'm not adding throttle it died in the before time, so last week. It's only been about 30 miles, so just to and from work so it hasn't learned itself yet. So Topscan... Again for me it's doing what I want, but it does seem kind of lacking otherwise. However, it's still all the stars because there is nothing comparably priced with the features. This ain't no mechanics thousand dollar scan tool, but for me I just remember... $60 vs $600-1200, SOLD! It can act like a normal code reader and such too, but here's why it's worth the extra $40 over an ELM327, it read and cleared my airbag code! Granted it came right back, but now I know it's my driver's airbag or the wiring for that one in particular. How much would a shop charge just to tell you that? Idk in this economy but less than that scanner & a year of big boy scanning included. Download the app before you buy, add your car and see what it will let you do for your car. I did and am not looking back! In a newer or different car it may be so much easier, but this is not simple for me at least. Totally worth it.

Good App Poor Customer Service
It worked great for the first year. Then it turns into a subscription based model. which I guess I can do but isn't ideal. The real problem is that their software doesn't work when you try and subscribe. For me it was stuck in "subscribing" state. I had purchased the subscription. They charged my card. They couldn't be bothered with actually honoring the service. The customer support sucks. Good tool and app when you can use it.
