Sweet tone - luthier and 40 years experience
The eq range on these is so pleasant. Just enough punch, brightness and absolutely perfect for classic rock, prog rock, or any variety of music. I coil split mine for more options. Converted my handmade boutique strat to be a dream machine.

Great pickups that will surprise you in a very good way. Alnico 2 forever!
Incredibly great pickups. Instant Billy Gibbons tone without having to twist a single knob on my 5150 combo. These are my first Alnico 2 pickups and I don't believe that I'll ever buy another Alnico 5 set. Brown sound for days. No harshness, only sweet and spicy tones. I swapped them into my evh copy (pictured) that I ordered while I was drinking. It turns out that the guitar wasn't terrible but the pickups weren't very good. These pickups have made this guitar at least my second favorite. It sounds great now.

absolutely wonderful pickups
Bought two sets of these. Initially one was for a PRS SE Custom 24 which had the SE type 85/14 pickups, which were weak and thin sounding. I almost went with the Duncan Seth Lover pickups before settling on these. The Set Lovers as a great sounding PAF type pickups, and in my mind, the Pearly Gates are very similar except that they have just a bit more output. If you like the sound of PAF pickups, but want just a bit more balls - go for these. Played clean they are dynamic, clear with great clarity and string to string balance. A bluesy crunch maintains than clarity and balance. At full distortion, they don't turn muddy or buzzy. The tone is actually inspiring. Some time later, one of the pickups in my '80 Gibson Les Paul developed a serious issue. I was so impressed with the Pearly Gates pickups in my PRS, I bought a second set for the LP. Installed in the LP, it really came to life. Just incredible sound. I've always been a fan of Seymour Duncan's pickups, and these are no exception. I highly recommend these pickups. One note to Amazon. Both packages were packaged by simply dropping them into a plastic bubble envelope. The first set arrived with a dirty footprint on the envelope, the manufacturers plastic jewel box, in which the pickups are packaged was fine. Please put $200 items inside a cardboard box -- Please.

Perfect.
Exactly what I was hoping for. A good, crunchy, bluesy sound. It is a little louder than the stock pickup but not so much that it doesn't match the stock neck and middle pickups. Highly recommended.

Gorgeous Sounding Pickup
In short, I hated the ice picky sound of my bridge single coil in my USA-made strat. I replaced it with a Pearly Gates humbucker in the bridge, and it is now the versatile instrument that I have always wanted. I shot it out with the Burstbucker installed in my LP standard, which is the model sound that I was looking for in the bridge, and this pickup more than met my expectations! In a blind sound test, it was really hard to hear any difference between the two. Beautiful sounding pickup and great packaging!

Great vintage hot pickup
Bought this to drop into a PRS SE CU24. The stock PRS pickups sounded... weird. The neck pickup is okay, but the bridge sounded like a blanket was over the highs(it was more subtle than the tone control). A lot of people had talked about the highs being shrill and it being ideal for a Les Paul due to the scale length/bridge balancing that out so I gotta say I was concerned ordering it because the tremolo... and if I’m being honest, the tone is amazing. It’s got a nice “grit” to it when you dig in. It is absolutely the sound I had in my head. The highs aren’t bad, it’s got good lows and mids, and it has a nice sweet sound. Tons of dynamics. You want blues? You got it. Classic rock? You bet. It’ll even do a decent VH and some more modern stuff if you want to(although it definitely isn’t ideal for that). All in all, if you’re looking for a sweet sounding vintage-hot pickup for classic rock/blues, look no further. Note - I’ve had this pickup in the guitar for about 3 weeks so you’re not hearing “first night honeymoon” raves. It still continues to impress me every time I plug it in.

I installed the pearly gates bridge pick-up in a Tokai LS95 and it sounds really nice. This pick-up differs from the Seymour Duncan 59 in the sense that it's got more of a chime-like quality when it's played clean. The note separation also sounds superior to the 59 to my ear and you get a nice high-end. When you crank it up this thing sounds great too. I don't think you can go wrong with either the 59 or the Pearly Gates, though it's down to you how much you're willing to pay for an upgrade. If you've got a Les Paul or something similar, then it's worth checking these out, but make sure you listen to clean demo's as well as overdriven to see whether they're for you.
