The fit and finish is kind of rough, but to me this is a function over form item. It works for the most part. Sometimes if you pull the release at an off angle, it doesn't open without a hard jerk. But for the price, it does what you'd expect.

I needed to mount a wind turbine on a pole in the backyard and this quick release came in handy. I built a tower next to the pole and attached a block and tackle at the top. My conundrum was how to release the turbine from the block when it was atop the pole. Too tall for me to reach. This quick release solved that problem. I used it to attach the turbine to the block and ran a rope from the release mechanism to the ground. Once the turbine was atop the pole and the mast it rested on secured to the pole, one tug on the rope and the connecting hook released and fell to the ground. It functioned perfectly. I haven’t had enough wind yet to see how well the wind turbine works to charge my batteries but this quick release made installing it much easier.

I employed it by putting a loop on a bight, a bowline at the end of the rope, and then using the hardware to make a loop. Worked well as a quick release, even under tension. But do note the orientation of the hardware under load as the release only works in one direction. Also, this is not for lifting. The pin of the fixed end is both slight and does not have an eye to ensure it does not come unscrewed. This is for loads you would consider using paracord for and want a release at a distance. The hardware is well made, don't get me wrong, just put consideration into its intended use.

When pulling the release lanyard under low load it rotates the shackle such that what you are attached to ends up at the hinge point, thus not a lot of force to cause it to open. I liked the idea of the lanyard coming off the bottom, but the hinge point should be further down the opposite side instead of essentially dead middle. It might work as long as there is enough load to keep it from rotating when pulling the lanyard - so it might work in certain applications.

This is a high quality 316 stainless steel quick release snap shackle. The shackle has a polished and shiny finish. The quick release snap is actuated by pulling on an included black lanyard cord. This opens and release the snap shackles gate. The shackle can be quickly and easily snapped closed when needed by releasing the lanyard and pushing the gate home. The other half of the shackle has a manually threaded in bar. This is very useful in sailboat rigging. I plan to use mine to quickly release my bumper hanger cords when getting under way. Would recommend this to anyone.
