Q: Amazon says that this filter will not fit a 2018 genesis 3.8l v6, but wix lists the wl10033 as the correct filter on the wix website. what gives?

I would go by the Wix catalog, just double check it when you get it. You can always return it.

Q: What is the metal washer for, the oil drain plug, or is it used with the filter?

The metal washer is called a “crush washer”. When you take out your drain plug you will see a old washer. That is what you replace. They are a one time use washer. It doesn’t go by the oil filter. It is for the drain plug.

Q: How many miles can this filter be ran before it needs to be changed?

I would not go more than 10,000 miles
