Vintage Hairstyles: Simple Steps for Retro Hair with a Modern Twist

The book is beautiful from cover to cover. I was in a show and needed some inspiration for styling my hair suitable for the 1960s. It definitely helped me to do this and make up tips as well! I would definitely recommend this book.

Love this book i have learnt a lot from it, the styles are great some i look forward to becoming a pro at! the only downside is you dont get a full after look picture eg. Doesn’t show the final look in full so some are guessing games!

This is an amazing book. It goes in to some small detail about various eras for hats clothes and make up. And of course more than anything curling hair! To be able to know which era the curls belong to is must have knowledge.

Nicely laid out book, offering a broad basic look at some vintage styles. It also highlights some past fashion trends for those looking for a vintage look. Sadly I felt this took away from the hair element I was hoping the book would offer, but still worth reading

The book itself is very good, my wife loves it. Unfortunately it arrived in damaged condition - an increasingly common occurrence with goods purchased on Amazon of late!

Lovely book, with a number of vintage techniques and modern tricks to recreate vintage looks. It also has a brief history of each era as well as sections covering make-up, hats and other accessories. Nice clear photographs and explanations. A very useful little book.

This is a great book with step by step photos, I'd highly recommend it!

Da ich absolut auf die 40er und 50er Jahre stehe, und auch schon einige Bücher über Haar und Makeup hierüber besitze, dachte ich mit ca 13 € kann man nicht viel falsch machen und bestellte mir dieses Buch vor. Eine super Entscheidung wie sich herausstellte als dieses Buch bei mir ankam, denn nie hätte ich für dieses Geld ein solch schönes und informatives Buch erwartet. Es bezieht sich nicht nur, wie es der Titel vermuten lässt, auf Frisuren sondern ist weitaus umfangreicher: -Das Buch beginnt mit Erläuterungen der Frisuren und der Mode von 1910-1960 pro Epoche sind hierfür jeweils 2 Seiten reich an Informationen. -Darauf folgen 6 Seiten "Tools and Tipps'' hier findet man Erklärungen der einzelnen Werkzeuge und Stylingtools, Tricks die das Stylen der Frisur erleichtern, sowie eine kurze Übersicht welche Styles man bei welcher Gesichtsform eher meiden und wie man die Haare stattdessen legen sollte. -Nächstes Kapitel ''Curl Power'' beschreibt verschiedene Techniken wie man sein Haar locken kann, was man hierbei beachten sollte und wie man seine Locken (auch bei schlechten Wetter) länger erhalten kann. (10 Seiten) -Kapitel ''Bang it out" hier sind verschieden Stylingvarianten der Frontpatien bzw. des Ponys aufgeführt. insgesamt 5 Techniken (6 Seiten) -Kapitel ''Hairstyles Get the Look'' beschreibt 11 verschieden Frisuren (jedoch sind hierzu teils mehrere verschieden Varianten erläutert. Maximalste bei den Fingerwaves, dort sind 4 Varianten beschrieben. (insgesammt hat dieses Kapitel 44 Seiten) -''all about Color'' beschreibt verschieden Haarfarben in den jeweiligen Epochen ( 2 Seiten) -'' Topping it off'' ist ein Kapitel, über welches ich mich riesig gefreut habe! Es enthält, wie es der Name schon vermuten lässt, unterschiedlich Kopfbedeckung bereit. Hier sind auf den ersten 2 Seiten Hüte von 1910 bis 1960 beschrieben, hinzu kommen noch 3 Möglichkeiten Tücher auf dem Kopf zu tragen. Und, ohhh Freude DIY - Anleitungen um sich jeweils ein -Pillboxhut -Mini Beret -Clip-in Blume - Fascinator (Birdcache) selbst herzustellen. (10 Seiten) -''Mad about Makeup'' hier findet man Erläuterungen des Makeups und der Maniküre der 1910er bis 1960er Jahre und Erklärungen dieses umzusetzen. (14 Seiten) -Last but not least Kapitel: ''Glasses'' hier findet man verschieden Brillenformen der einzelnen Epochen (1910 - 1960) und noch einpaar Tipps fürs Augen-Makeup ( insgesamt 4 Seiten) Das Buch ist Proppenvoll mit wunderschönen Farbfotos und Illustrationen. Aber auch der Text kommt nicht zu kurz. Besonders gefallen haben mir die Zahlreichen Tipps und Tricks, von denen ich einige (trotz dass ich selbst nicht wenige Bücher zu diesem Thema besitze) noch gar nicht kannte. Ich kann jeder Rockabella sowie anderen Damen die sich für das Styling dieser Vergangenen Epochen interessieren nur wärmstens empfehlen. Vergleicht man den Preis mit anderen Büchern dieser Art, macht man hier ein enormes Schnäppchen. (Habe kurzzeitig sogar überlegt ob es sich hier um einen Fehler handeln könnte, ist aber dies ist nicht der Fall, der Preis ist real!) Also Mädels, holt euch dieses Buch und ihr werdet bestimmt (hoffentlich, aber wahrscheinlich :-) ) soviel Freude wie ich damit haben!

This book is great! Simple and a nice step stool for those interested in the 1950’s! It’s a real beginners guide so don’t expect anything to detailed. Loved the read and ideas. Wish there was more in it but great for me nonetheless.

The hairdos are lovely but it lacks more pictures for the step-by-step instructions. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known.

This book is great if you already know the basics of vintage hairstyles and are looking for more ideas. The book does a lovely job of giving historical notes on the looks and makeup for each time period (1910 through 1960s) which is exceptionally helpful for those who are looking to know more about what was worn in the period. For me, the most helpful part of this book was the section on bangs, or the front part of a hairdo. The style in front is a quick way to give most normal curly hairstyles that vintage feel, and I was looking for some variation. There is also a good selection of full updos for more formal looks. I also have Vintage Hairstyling by Lauren Rennels, and I really feel like these two books compliment each other. Vintage Hairstyling does a great job of providing in depth details and pictures of how to do different curling methods, the directions to roll them, etc. It also goes into detail about how to roll and set hair for a handful of different “complete” looks and updos. The directions are very clear, and this book was my go to for getting a solid handle on technique. I absolutely love having both. If I want detailed notes on how to do a certain roll, I look here. If I want more styles and ideas to choose from, or I want to pair a part of one look with another, I look to Vintage Hairstyles for ideas.
