Quality, Value, and Ease to Install - 5 STARS
I bought the Epic Smart Shield after doing some research on under the sink units. My selection criteria was easy to install, long lasting/affordable filters, and legitimate filter quality supported by NSF testing. I am not a handy guy so if I need more than a wrench and screw driver, I'm calling someone to help me install. The Epic Smart Shield boosted the confidence as it went from in the box to filtering water in my kitchen sink in about 10 minutes. They have extremely simple instructions (with pictures) along with a YouTube video that I paused and played throughout. The filters are reasonably affordable at about $100 for a year's worth of filtered water. The cheap fridge filters will filter about 1/10th of the water for 1/2 the cost. So I felt good investing in a high quality filter that wasn't Reverse Osmosis because I actually want the minerals and stuff. The NSF certifications were the icing on the cake. It seems like everyone has figured out that they should offer an under the sink unit but they aren't putting in the real development time into testing and assuring users that it works. Being NSF 42, 53, and 401 certified as well as being made in America was a sign of quality and something I could trust wasn't just a knock-off Chinese imitation like so many for sale on Amazon. Don't fall for the 3, 4, 5 stage non-sense. It's about test results, not number of filters! Also, I read that some filters made outside the US can have ingredients in them that you'd never want in contact with your drinking water and are illegal in the US! In summary, the metallic taste in our water in vanished, install was a breeze, and I have peace-of-mind that we are drinking good, clean water. Our family will be Epic customers for a long time.

Believe It...Very Happy
I was looking at several different under the sink water filters to run to an isolated drinking water faucet. I chose Epic Smart Shield based upon a recommendation from a friend who manages several dozen single family home rentals in Omaha, Nebraska where the municipal water quality has had severe issues. He told me that he installed Epic Filters in all of his rentals because of its outstanding certification standards, ease of installation and the fact it is made in the USA. He also said that these filters have been installed for over six months now with zero problems. This was good enough for me. I purchased the Epic and it arrived within days in quality packaging. The installation would take about 20 minutes with a modern plumbing setup (finding and staging the tools will take as long), my installation took longer due to the fact I was running it to drinking water faucet as opposed to the existing water faucet requiring some additional parts. I could not be happier with the outcome. We live in a rural area of Wisconsin and are on a well with relatively good water quality so I didn't notice much difference in the water quality. However, I have piece of mind that I'm doing all I can to protecting my family's health by ensuring they have the safest drinking and cooking water, especially for our two young children and one on the way. ***UPDATE*** After having the Epic for several weeks now my wife says there is definitely a difference in the taste and mouth feel for the better (I still don't taste it but that doesn't really matter does it). Below are the parts & tools required to install the Epic to an isolated drinking faucet: Drinking Water Faucet, ~$25; Braided Stainless Flexible Water Tube, ~$8; Brass Splitter Connector, ~$7; Step Bit (for drilling into stainless steel sink), $45...Total was less than $100 half of which is the Step Bit. If you can borrow the Step Bit that would be best, it only took about 20 seconds to drill the holes through the inexpensive stainless sink.

Great
I really like this product overall. It was easy to set up, works well, and the features are exactly what I needed. The design feels sturdy and the performance was great at first. The only downside is that after a short time of using it, the water pressure started to slow down. It still works, but not as strong as it was in the beginning. Other than that, it’s a solid product and I’m happy with the purchase

This product purifies water, not just make it taste good. We're so impressed that we're buying more to give away.
After extensive research on water filters, including RO filters, my wife and I decided to replace our current water filter with the Epic Smart Shield and we're really glad we did. The immediate result for us was even better tasting water, smoother tasting coffee and about twice the water flow than our previous water filter. We are so impressed with the product that we are going to give each of our sons one for Christmas. Research Summary: We learned that the Epic Smart Shield passed three stringent NSF filtering standards, not just one. It seems that most water filters pass the NSF 42 standard (chlorine, taste, odor, sediments, etc.) and stop there. But the Epic filter goes further by passing the NSF 53 standard (lead, mercury, heavy metals, asbestos, volatile organic chemicals, etc.) and NSF 401 (drugs, pesticides, etc.). We hated the thought of drinking any of that stuff. This time around, getting "purified" water was our goal, not just simply getting water that tasted good. We ruled out reverse osmosis systems because of space, wasting 2X to 4X the amount of water it filtered, and low water flow. Installation Tips: Installation was easy especially with the push-in shark-bite style connections. Make sure to rotate the filter tube until it "snaps" in place. If you need to mount the filter holder on drywall, I recommend using E-Z Ancor drywall anchors, 50 lbs capacity. We prefer to have a dedicated on/off filter faucet (B&K #120-004NL) inserted in the hole that's on the side of the sink. This eliminates using the filter on non-essential uses like washing hands or dishes. Adding the auxiliary faucet takes more time, but to us it was worth it. Bottom Line: This is an excellent, excellent product. We're buying more of them to give away.

UGHHH!!!! Don’t waste your time and money.
I should have given up trying to install this piece of crap long before I finally tapped out, so part of my rage is my own fault...but only a part. I was very determined, I really wanted this to work. I say “piece of crap”, but actually, there was only one component that was cheap and useless, the most important one...the one you screw into your existing plumbing. It’s a soft, plastic piece, that is supposed to screw into metal. It did screw into the bottom part ok, but the top part, where you are supposed to screw it into the flexible piping...it’s garbage. It was too cheap, soft and poorly constructed to use and the flexible connections would not screw into it at all. Not even a little. I guess it’s true, if it looks like a piece of garbage, it probably is. And before the company replies saying, “why didn’t you contact us”? Well, most people do these projects on the week-end, but you aren’t available outside of banker’s hours. I’ve got my under sink stuff out everywhere, my water is disconnected...I had to do all kinds of gymnastics to unscrew the thing with all the hoses connected to it to get it out so I could use my kitchen water again. You think I’m gonna try this again when it’s convenient for you? Uh...no.

Great water filter that is SUPER easy to install. Makes city water taste great!
I've had great luck with my Epic pitcher filter, so I was pretty happy to see Epic offered an under-sink filter kit. I had modern plastic plumbing, so this Smart Shield was incredibly easy to install - really no need to pay the "professionals" to install it. Instructions were good, and they provide a link to a short YouTube video for a quick installation guide. I'm not incredibly practiced at plumbing, so the video was a Godsend. Once I had everything figured out, it only took me about 20 minutes of actual work to install the whole kit under my sink! I have town-supplied water that runs through untold miles of iron pipes - this Epic Smart Shield does a great job of getting rid of that nasty metallic taste and reddish tinge to the water. Water tastes crisp and clean, makes AWESOME coffee! :) Now I feel much better about letting my four-year-old drink water from the tap. The filter eliminates a bunch of other crap too, they provide a list with the kit. Pretty impressive. This is a great, super easy to install under-sink filter that does a great job at cleaning up your drinking water, and it frees up space in your fridge - no more pitchers! Filters last 7-9 months. Definitely worth every penny, thanks Epic!

Great value and performance for the price.
I have always been a tap water drinker so it was past time for a filter. The test reports of what these filters remove are impressive. While I believe we had good water quality to and through our home, we can never be too safe these days with the microplastics and PFOAs finding their way into everything we eat and drink. The filter install was easy enough. If you have a deep double sink, be prepared to work in a tight space as these filters are tall. This installs only on the cold side of the water supply and will limit the flow a little bit, but if you are like me, you clean your dishes with the hot side which is unaffected by this filter. You will have your original pressure on the hot side and your sprayer will work as normal. When inserting the supply lines, make sure you "bottom" the tube out into the coupler making sure you straighten the tube and line it up before inserting until it stops at the back. If you stick the tube in off angle, once the end of the tube goes past the oring it will give you a false sense that the tube is all the way in, don't be fooled. Highly recommend this filter, additionally I put one on my refrigerator supply line as well.

Great filter for renters!
I rent, so I was looking for a filter that would be easy to install without damaging anything. This Epic filter did a great job of that. Installation took all of about ten minutes, and most of that was cleaning everything out under my sink! You just need to screw on a single adapter in your water line and plug in two pipes. Its really simple; anyone can install this thing. My area has had a few recent reports of unsafe drinking water so finding a filter that would clean so well was a very high priority for me. I love that it is certified, so I knew it would do a good job of pulling out lead, chloramine, TTHM, and trace pharmaceuticals. Our water tastes so much better now than it did strait out of the tap. It's convenient that it just takes over the cold water line, so I don't have to deal with pitchers and waiting for water to filter anymore. This is a great product, and I'll be buying another to go on my ice machine!
