Exceptional
Just pretty much reprofiled an old kitchen knife with a 600 grit fine stone!! These stones are very very effective. Normally you'd need a 120 or 240. Ive been hand sharpening for a couple of years now with wetstones so am pretty experienced. This stone is exceptional and ideal for beginners. A 600 grit stone is normally a third stone before a 1000 and then 4000/6000 polish. However this 600 is way more effective than a 600 grit wetstone so the results are immediate and significant. All I can say is that they work a lot quicker than wetstones so take it easy with new or already sharp knives. Burr creation is profound so very easy to tell when youve apexed. Even old difficult to sharpen knives wont last two minutes with this thing, so glad I found it. I follow a guy on youtube who taught me how to sharpen, look him up. His youtube profile is OUTDOORS55. His name is Alex. He got me into DMT stones and gives great tutorials on every day sharpening using cost effective stones. No need for Japanese chosera stones at £200, get one of these american imports, sharpen from a fine stone and then strop to shaving sharpness!

Super high quality
Great high quality stone that will take the chisel edge to the next level compared to a 1000 grit trend stone. I haven’t used water stones, as I prefer the fact that diamond doesn’t need levelled. I’m happy with how this stone cuts and how the blades perform. I’ll usually strop after it, but it isn’t required. It’s not cheap, but it is GOOD! And you’ll only cry once.

DMT D8X 8-Inch Dia-Sharp Continuous Diamond 8000 grit extra extra fine
used the 8000 grit extra extra fine a good few times and no problems so far, reports of some failing after little use seem to point to hit and miss quality, puts a nice polish on the edge of knives

Woodworkers beware, DMT are not what they used to be. 6 stones bought, 6 stones returned.
I am absolutely disgusted by just how bad DMTs quality control is nowadays, especially for the price tag. Attached are photos and a video from 3 DIFFERENT DMT stones of 2 different grits. Of the 6 I've ordered (2 from another seller), 2 had ramped edges, 1 was dished, 1 had a rippled surface, 1 had an area of anomalous grit that would not break-in and 1 was dented. Stones were double-checked for flatness with my Moore & Wright. ALL arrived with scratches on them due to DMTs silly insistence on having a pretty little window through which we can see the stone. What purpose does it serve, other than to allow the stone to be damaged in transit/storage? We know what stone were getting by virtue of it being printed on the box! A flimsy cardboard frame that never survives transit is also supposed to hold the stones in place. Not once have I opened a DMT stone and not found that thing to be crushed. That means not only do the stones get scratched up through that useless little window, it's flaccid cardboard frame means the damage isn't limited to a single area of the stone that is always exposed, oh no; Both things work in concert to ensure your £80 stone is scratched all over. Truly exceptional... Buy Atoma and never look back.

Quality declined
Firstly the US import "Slim" is a Fine stone as per the pictures but unlike the title that says Course. It's also like the rest and not slim in any way. Someone commented that DMT's quality had declined. Sadly that seems to be true. It's still a solid steel plate but unlike my older XX-Course plate the short edges look to have been plasma cut and left rough. The long edges aren't as smooth as the old either but that's probably nit-picking and neither really affects it's function that much. The main issue is that the diamond doesn't go all the way to the edges like it should. One long edge is almost complete, the other is bare for about 3/4 of it. The short edges are both bare for a few mm and one of them is then less dense for up to 20mm. I think it should do for my purposes but it'd definitely be going back if I'd paid full price or needed to sharpen to the edge....and I won't be going back for other grits. Someone else commented the packaging is stupid. They're not wrong, a hole to touch the stone is probably great in a retail environment but no good for shipping. Amazon wrapped mine in a jiffy bag and it arrived fine across the Atlantic...but had it been in a box with other items, I fear it could have been a different story. I'd have to agree with another reviewer that it's worth looking at Sharpal instead. The plate isn't a solid steel plate, it's two thinner plates (double sided) glued either side of a thicker middle. I can't attest to lifespan yet but at least the diamonds go to the edge! Edit: having now used the stone, to be fair to DMT it appears that there are diamonds at the edge because it does cut there. However the cut changes at the edges and also as you go over the logo so a significant portion of the plate isn't useable for lapping things flat. In fact the finish from this fine plate left far larger scratches than the finish from the Sharpal course plate. That makes this plate unusable for me unfortunately.

Hassle free in every way!
The first one I recieved had a tiny imperfection (a bump in the casting) but Amazon returns are so easy I got a replacement within a couple of days. The plate itself is great and cuts really nicely. I used to use nothing but water stones but having to flatten them all the time becomes a real pain. These dimaond stones are worth the investment and I'll be replacing my last two water stones once I have more funds.

Pretty good.
Good price for DMT extra coarse. If you want to stop using a grinder, this is the diamond plate to buy, provided you also have coarse, fine and super fine plates. Or if you only use carbon & A2 steel blades and want an extra coarse to cut bevels, using oil stone and strop for the rest.

Great! Puts a far nicer edge on my knives ...
Great! Puts a far nicer edge on my knives than the traditional whetstones I have. It also does it far faster, and with less fuss. Add to that its being a similar price to a decent traditional waterstone of this grit, and it's a no brainer to me. It's a lot heavier than it looks, and than I imagined it would be. I'm not sure why it is, but I like it, and it stops it moving about on the bench.

Very good quality sharpening solution. I use it to sharpen plane irons and chisels and I've not seen the slightest sign of fatigue after several months of use. Guaranteed flatness, and no need for lapping... ever. To use, all that is needed is a small amount of liquid to lubricate (the manufacturer recommends water -- glass cleaner is another option with no adverse effects), then sharpen, then wipe off the slurry (the swarf is sign that it's working). The plate is quite heavy, but it helps keeping everything in place while sharpening. Let it dry and store it away. easy. I've found I can obtain results faster by applying very little pressure -- no need to force weight down into the stone to sharpen. There is a small break-in period, after which I started getting bluish halos (photo attached). It's a tell-sign cleaning is due, which can be done easily by a good scrubbing with a toothbrush and some kitchen/sink cleansing powder agent (such as calcium carbonate and sodium carbonate). The surface can also reportedly be cleaned with a high-polymer eraser. Even easier! Very responsive support from the manufacturer. Very satisfied customer! The prices for the coarse, fine, and extra-fine stones fluctuate somewhat, I'd recommend setting a watch.

I own 4 DMT diamond stones. Unfortunately, everyone I have bought before this one has defects. I am happy with this stone though. My extra coarse stone is missing diamond coverage all along the edges and has a big blotch missing in one of the corners. My DMT fine stone has extremely bad grit contamination that you can not only feel, but can hear, when sharpening. So, I was happy when I finally got a DMT stone that didn't have grit contamination and has complete diamond coverage including along the edges. It is unfortunate that it took 4 stones to get a good one. To say DMT's quality control is subpar is an understatement. I kept seeing good reviews and so thought maybe I was getting lemons, just a random bad one. But no. Everyone stone except this one had significant defects. That being said.... even with the defects the stones work well enough and will last. I know it's odd to say so much negative and have a 5 star review. That is simply because this stone was exactly what it should have been. No grit contamination, no missing coverage and a great stone. It cuts fast and leaves a uniform scratch patter. It is well built and will last year's making it a great buy for $50. If you can get a DMT diamond stone without any significant defects, then you're getting a good buy. These stones will last for a very long time if you take care of them and can cut any steel type including super steels like s110v or s90v.

My stone had a manufacturing issue that I discovered after the return window had closet but DMT support solved it in an excellent way. I'm very happy with my stone and the support experience I had couldn't be better. Fully recommended!
