Very Fresh, It does come very oily from the roasting, its doing better in my grinder now that its been open for a while the oils seem to dry up some and my coffee grinder is able to grind them now, its a good coffee, I don't have any complaints about it.

I do find it drinkable, because I really like french roast, and I prefer a burnt roast to a light roast (call me a heathen, I can take it). My preference is for a textured, lightly acidic, dark roast. That's not this. If I didn't need to watch pennies I'd be disappointed, but for 50 cents an ounce and a dark roast that isn't stale or impossibly bitter I'm grateful. A lot of reviews mention the clear bag. Yeah, not a great idea, OTH, lotta brands out there sell bags with 25% bean chips (Amzn happy belly, you know who you are), maybe it makes sense?
