Things That Join the Sea and the Sky: Field Notes on Living

This book is beautifully written and incredibly inspiring. I recommend it as a daily meditation guide, as the short readings are perfect fodder for contemplation and reflection to start off your day.

Admittedly, I love Mark Nepo’s writings. Not one of his books has disappointed me. This book is to be savored, like a decadent dessert or a lovely glass of wine. Began reading this book in January of 2019, and I’m close to the end now. Each essay, each message has inspired or lifted my spirit. Tender, vulnerable and true, this book is a precious gift from Mark Nepo, to us, his readers. 🙏🏼

This book offers many thoughts and the author's experiences. The meditations are divided into 18 sections, including one on journeling. Not just for Christians, a book that helps us face the many challenges life presents.

What is not to love from Mark Nepo? I am enjoying the fact that these are tiny, short bits - prose poems, if you will, that I can use as a daily reader. Have read Book of Awakening for about four years, time to take a brief break, and this is just perfect.

I have been a long time fan of Nepo. His writing helps bring balance into my life. He is a part of my morning routine.

I started to journal my favorite bits from this book - and I had to quit because I was underlining and writing down everything. Mark Nepo’s writing is some of the most moving I’ve seen; he taps in, repeatedly, to a deep pulse of life that you didn’t know you also felt, or that another could see (see Matepn and The Privilege of Awe among many other entries).

Mark Nepo tells simple stories so poetically that you just have to read them over and over to savor them. I’m using this in my “Sacred Space“ group. We then take time to reflect on our own lives and share our writings and thoughts. It is just so rich. You won’t regret getting this book. It’s like having a friend nearby.

Some of the musings were spot on, enlightening, memorable. Others seemed forced. This was s little all over the place. Hard to recommend, however worthwhile it was at times.

I've discovered Mark Nepo's work through Oprah Winfrey's recommendations. I've read this book by bits, a couple of stories with my breakfast as a morning routine and I absolutely loved it. Mark Nepo's words are deep and profound. The stories are so touching and inspiring, plus it gives you tips on how to journal. I felt so inspired by this book that I had to buy another copy for my bestie. It really made me wanna read more of his books, which shall I read next ?

Exquisite...exquisite...exquisite! Mark's book has fast become a favourite because his writing is not only a joy to read but also causes me to stop and ponder and deepen. A rare gift. Thank you!
