Review: The best book for learning Nepali - If you are serious about learning Nepali this is the book to buy! It covers grammar very clearly and has very good exercises and dialogues for practising listening and using the grammar in context. I have used it daily for 8 months (it is getting a bit dog-eared!) and am now starting to get a good understanding at least of everyday Nepali. I only wish it had a more comprehensive index to easily find again the many detailed grammar points it covers. Great book. Review: Great book, the audio helps a lot - Great book, the audio helps a lot. Takes quite a bit of time to digest the entire content but it took me to a good place and in about 4 months I could express things of basic and moderate complexity in Nepali. Locals would understand me and we could have some conversation. The book took me to a level where I could read at low/normal-low speed though I could read everything. Getting faster is a matter of practice and I still read Nepali everyday to maintain my level and get better. The glossary contains about 1250 words in both nepali-english and english-nepali which I find a bit low and I found many occasions where the words I needed were not in there. Matter of fact is I had to buy a dictionary because the glossary was not detailed enough. I did not knock one star off for that though because of the richness of the book and I don't think it's aimed at being an extensive dictionary though it would have been a nice extra.

Read,write,yes. Speak,no
Previously I had purchased the book only and found it excellent. After working through the course I could could both read and write in Swedish and use a dictionary to extend my vocabulary. However, having visited Sweden, I still could not converse because the pronunciation is quite different from that of English. So I gave my book to my English speaking daughter-in-law who lives in Sweden, could converse as a foreigner, but needed the grammar to improve, and bought the double pack for me. The newer edition text is just as good. But I am disappointed with the CD. The speech is too quick and does not always follow the text exactly. There is also no indication when you have got to the end of a section before it starts on another, so you always miss the start. Maybe when I have learnt sufficient spoken Swedish from my granddaughter so that I can just listen to the CD without the text, I shall find it of value, but until then, I have given up on it. It is too frustrating.

No proper intro to writing nepali script .
The first chapters rush through introduction to reading the -for beginners- complicated nepali script. An intro to WRITING it is non existent ! Now taking separate course in writing and reading before I can use this course book and give a review. It LOOKS thorough though.

Excellent resource
Probably the best reference book on the subject. Had proven very useful to my partner who is studying the language.

Son's wedding in Sweden - no problem!
An excellent way to learn Swedish. It covers the main areas like arriving in the country, greeting people, eating in and out, telling the time etc. and there are "10 things to remember" at the end of each chapter. The conversations are particularly useful when used with the accompanying CDs. Also I've learned a little of Sweden's history. Take it from me there's more to Sweden than Abba and Ikea..... for example did you know that Anders Celsius was a Swede?

Its hard to learn a new language, and this ...
Its hard to learn a new language, and this doesn't make it any easier, but it is a very thorough book and explanations are clear

Mostly in Nepali writing.
It is a good book however, majority of the book is actually in Nepali writing and symbols and if I had known this I wouldn’t have purchased because it’s making learning Nepali harder. Also this book should’ve come with two CDs as per the description and I did not receive any.

Really good book to learn Nepali from scratch!

The course is ok in general. The explanations are really good and each dialogue is supported by a CD track. On the other hand apart from the dialogues the book gives many additional new words for each unit. And I wish they were also pronounced and recorded on the CD.

I picked this up so I could speak more to my wife's family. The book itself provides fantastic explanations of the grammar and walks you through stories to learn. While the book tells you to use flashcards to learn Devanagari, I recommend just using Duolingo Hindi and 100% the alphabet, then return to this book. The audio is available for free download online from the complete website. I only wish the audio included the vocabulary lists as well, but it's great for those without a Nepali speaker on hand.

Leider wurde beim Buch die CD nicht mitgeliefert und ist nun auch nicht mehr erhältlich. Das Buch ist ohne Audiomaterial nicht benutzbar, so dass ich das Produkt zurücksenden musste.

The explanation is very clear and the exercises helpful, but I’m stuck learning the Nagari script, as the book requires you to learn it well by the 4th unit
