To say what that purpose is, is not for a family Web site--but it involves that thing that Mommy and Daddy do at night with the bedroom door closed. All-Time Greatest Hits collects the essential White and Love Unlimited Orchestra tracks onto a packed CD. Are 20 cuts too much? Not with Viagra. That's a kind of medicine that grownups take. --Gavin McNett Review: Barry White - Great music. Would buy again. Review: MUSIC: 4.5 • AUDIO: 4.2 - FORMAT: CD UPC: 7-314-522459-2-2 RELEASED: 1994-06-07 ARTIST: Barry White / Love Unlimited Orchestra TITLE: Barry White: All-Time Greatest Hits LABEL: Mercury (Polygram) TRACKS: 20 • DURATION: 1:17:37 I don't normally write reviews of music CDs — but, this CD is a fine example of why one should ALWAYS perform their due diligence when buying "Greatest Hits" compilations. Very soon after I received this CD in the mail, I eagerly placed it in my CD player (and, yes, I do still have one of those), with the expectation of filling my room with the glorious sounds of Barry White. However, somewhere in the middle of the third track, I could no longer fight the feeling that something was VERY wrong! The second track ("I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby") didn't sound the way I remembered it sounding, and neither did the third ("I've Got So Much To Give"). At this point I did some research, and found that the track-length specifications for 15 of the 20 listed songs were significantly SHORTER in this compilation than they were in their originally released album versions! (And, three of the songs [at least, according their listed run-times] were slightly LONGER [each, by a few seconds] than they were when they were originally released!) Nowhere on the reproduction of the CD's front and back covers on desertcart's website does it indicate that the included songs are NOT the full original versions — however, to desertcart's credit, in the listing of the tracks in the "Sample this Album" section, three tracks ("I've Got So Much To Give", "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me" and "Playing Your Game, Baby") are listed as "Single Version", and three others ("I'm Qualified To Satisfy You", "Oh What A Night For Dancing" and "Your Sweetness Is My Weakness") are listed as "Edit". Still, that leaves NINE other songs with no indication whatsoever that they are shortened versions of the original songs! Now, don't get me wrong: all of the songs presented here, even in their shortened versions, still sound good — it's just that I wanted the original, longer, versions that I grew up listening to. However, since there is nothing physically wrong with the disc (that, and the fact that the ONLY "real" mistake that was made was mine for NOT checking more closely BEFORE I made the purchase), I'm going to keep it. Oh well, live and learn. NOTE: I'm including the following list of songs on this disc, each with its associated track-length, and its associated track-length upon its initial album release — so that others, hopefully, wont make my same mistake. ## • SONG TITLE • LENGTH ON THIS DISC • ORIGINAL RELEASE LENGTH (DIFFERENCE IN LENGTH) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 01 • Love's Theme • 4:11 • 4:06 (+5 Seconds) 02 • I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby • 4:02 • 7:12 (-3:10) 03 • I've Got So Much To Give • 5:21 • 8:14 (-2:53) 04 • Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up • 4:10 • 7:56 (-3:46) 05 • Honey Please, Can't Ya See • 3:17 • 5:15 (-1:58) 06 • Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe • 3:55 • 4:34 (-39 Seconds) 07 • You're The First, The Last, My Everything • 3:28 • 4:36 (-1:08) 08 • What Am I Gonna Do With You • 3:38 • 3:39 (-1 Second) 09 • I'll Do For You Anything You Want Me To • 4:14 • 6:13 (-1:59) 10 • Let The Music Play • 3:34 • 6:16 (-2:42) 11 • You See The Trouble With Me • 3:24 • 3:29 (-5 Seconds) 12 • Baby We Better Try To Get It Together • 4:30 • 4:25 (+5 Seconds) 13 • Don't Make Me Wait Too Long • 3:24 • 4:42 (-1:18) 14 • I'm Qualified To Satisfy You • 3:12 • 4:27 (-1:15) 15 • It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me • 3:28 • 7:00 (-3:32) 16 • Playing Your Game, Baby • 3:39 • 7:12 (-3:33) 17 • Oh What A Night For Dancing • 3:18 • 3:48 (-30 Seconds) 18 • Your Sweetness Is My Weakness • 4:15 • 8:04 (-3:49) 19 • Just The Way You Are • 4:13 • 7:09 (-2:56) 20 • Satin Soul • 4:13 • 4:10 (+3 Seconds) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AUDIO: All songs are well-recorded stereo mixes, that present the music fairly well in regards to both frequency response and spatial imaging — though, as is the case with the VAST majority of songs in popular music, the bass isn't very deep and the dynamic range is fairly compressed. EXTRAS: A nice 10-page booklet, featuring a few photographs of Barry White; and, an essay by David Ritz entitled "The Maestro".

Gotta love Barry!!
Fabulous old school mood music on a CD. I bought this as a present for my neighbors 60th wedding party. I dedicated "My first, my last, my everything" to them!!

Excellent overall for $5
Although I've seen other reviews complain about the sound quality, I think it's a great compilation overall for the minimal price charged. If you want a digitally remastered CD, it's typically going to cost more than $5. The only song I wish wasn't on there is I Love You Just the Way You Are (Billy Joel). Something else would've been better in it's place.

All the greatest hits by Barry White are all on one CD! It's amazing that all 20 songs are 'crammed' on one CD! I had the greatest hits album on cassette back in the day until I wore it out by playing it on my cassette player! I also had the album on CD and I, too, wore it out by playing it on my CD player! My favorite songs on the CD are: 'Love's Theme'; 'I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Baby'; 'I've Got So Much To Give'; 'Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe'; 'You're The First, The Last, My Everything'; 'What Am I Gonna Do With You'; 'Let The Music Play'; 'You See The Trouble With Me'; 'It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me'; 'Playing Your Game, Baby'; 'Oh, What A Night For Dancing'; 'Your Sweetness Is My Weakness' and 'Satin Soul'. The other songs are 'okay' and the two instrumental tracks are by the Love Unlimited Orchestra. Great songs by Barry White, guaranteed to get you in the mood! REST IN POWER to singer/songwriter Mr. Barry Eugene Carter White (September 12, 1944-July 4, 2003): 'Mr. White, you may be gone but you will never, ever be, forgotten.' Thank you for writing and singing beautiful love songs.
