As kids in the 1980s, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Peter Dinklage) saved the world thousands of times – at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. Now, they’re going to have to do it for real. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens discover video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth, using the video games as the models for their assaults – and now U.S. President Cooper must call on his old-school arcade friends to save the world from being destroyed by PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens. Review: Excellent. - Excellent. Review: Yes its Adam Sandler and I liked it. - Ok, maybe its because I am English but I don't get why Adam Sandler gets beaten up every time he stars in a movie, somebody please tell me what the problem is here. Mores the point, if you don't like him, don't buy his movies, he doesn't care if you love or hate him, if you buy his movies you are paying his wages. Stop berating him using a forum that is supposed to be for reviewing a movie. Anyway, did I like this movie, yes, why, because it has Adam Sandler in it. Yes, it is what you would expect from Mr Sandler as it seems that all of his characters have a almost confused feel to them, and maybe that is the point. Charlie Chaplin played the same character for years and apparently he is a genius, go figure. I agree that Kevin James as President is a bit strange given that we have no idea how he achieved such a high position. But, the whole idea that the president is a normal person is not so far fetched, lets face it if Donald Trump wins this position in reality, Kevin James won't look like such a bad option after all. The plot of the movie is well thought-out, for many years we have actually been sending our radio waves into space and who knows if another civilization picks them up they may well see it as hostility (Refer to the movie "contact" as this contains film footage of the third Reich returned from space, I think) so perhaps this is not a totally new idea. The special effects are great and this really takes me back to those years I spent playing Pac-Man, Centipede and a multitude of other video games. All told, this is a well rounded bit of family entertainment, yes there is a couple of swears in there and references to sex which I believe most children would not understand. Its an exciting film with loads going on and plenty of visuals especially in the last third of the movie. Its got nostalgia, great effects, humor and is really good fun to watch. By the way I do have one tiny gripe and that is that Q-Bert speaks English, I believe he only used to speak in his own language which was much more comical. This should give the Trolls something to complain about.

Pixelate Your Preconceptions
I keep coming back! Takes me into the beautiful world of retro gaming. Don't you just marvel at the combination of simple colour and sound patterns?! This universally pleasing aesthetic is woven with the not-so-simplistic comic genius of Adam Sandler who is the sardonical Sam Brenner. His character updates us from the 1980s to the 2010s, as we see the nerd who had to grow up; but who never recovered from losing to 'Fireblaster' Eddie in the 1982 Donkey Kong World Championships. Watch as our heroes unite, to combine with no less than the President of the USA (Kevin James, you are goofily wonderful) to take on an alien conspiracy threatening to turn planet earth into pixel dust! It would be nice to see a female hero who can be cast as the star of the show without having to be a slender butt-kicking gymnast. So I understand critics who say this movie is frustratingly stereotypical in the gender department. Maybe it doesn't develop the film in the way it could - I mean the possibilities of women who could play Lieutenant Van Patten could be so much more versatile. And the way men and women treat each other could always be better generally in life. But come on people: this is a wonderful show, bursting with imagination, humour and action.

Good movie, could be better.
It's cheesy, it's Sandler, it's... good? Despite the critical panning this film receives it is actually an enjoyable romp. No it won't win any writing awards, and yes it's goofy. What else would you expect from a film with the leading cast? This is far from an awful video game movie, you can point to almost any adaptation and find this a superior product. It's genuinely funny, Sandler's deadpan delivery works for the most part, and all the main actors play their part fantastically. Styling one of the lead cast in the same vein as Billy Mitchell was a great move for those who are heavily into video game culture. The special effects are incredible, award worthy in my opinion, because of their accuracy to the 2D gaming age they represent and how fresh they look in the 3D world. The only caveats to this come in the form of the made-up game character Lady Lisa (who for no conceivable reason becomes a fully formed human rather than staying 2D) and Q*Bert. In fact the biggest blunder of this movie is the use of Q*Bert, considering his character was pulled off so well in Wreck-It Ralph (Which is also a much better movie). In Pixels, he becomes an attempt at a cute child-friendly pet character - an attempt that doesn't endear the character but simply makes him an unnecessary irritant. Simply put this film was always going to be slammed for simply having Adam Sandler in it, a criticism that is as pathetic as it is baseless. Compare it to almost any video game movie and it comes up roses. It keeps it's story clean (if ridiculous), it's pace fast and it's action impressive. This is more than many of it's rival movies. The fact that it is a competent movie makes it average at worst, and above average for those who get the references and can look past Sandler's nametag. If you enjoyed this movie and wanted better examples of the video game movie genre, here are some movies worth your time; Wreck-It Ralph (Disney, animated), Need For Speed (Action), Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Alpha (Action, Short), From Bedrooms To Billions (Documentary), WarGames (Thriller), Scott Pilgrim vs The World (Action, Teen), Mortal Kombat Legacy (Action, Short), Video Games Live (Concert, Music). If you want more cheesy but fun movies; Mortal Kombat (Action), Dead or Alive (Action), Tekken (Action), Street Fighter (Action).

This is one of Adam Sandler best movies in my honest opinion. And I am not even a gamer! It's funny and it has Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage and of course Kevin James. This movie was quite the surprise I must say. It's just a very funny and sweet movie. I highly recommend it. It's great for all ages. And you don't have to be a gamer to really enjoy this movie!
