Acclaimed graphic novel follows Bras de Olivias Dominguez's life in Brazil, depicting happiness, sorrow, love, and loneliness, ending with his death. Review: An extraordinary piece of art - Totally unique and exceptional comic. The premise is fascinating, that each episode gives a different aspect of the protagonist's potential life and he dies at the end of every one. This doesn't even come vaguely close to doing it justice. Each episode adds new elements to our understanding of him and his context. Once you get to the end, all the disparate and varied versions of his life come together to give you a wonderful overview of him, his family and his existence. It is extraordinarily clever and all comes together into a moving and thought-provoking whole. Review: A great example of what can be achieved within the comics ... - A great example of what can be achieved within the comics medium. Fantastic look at mortality and how different choices and events can affect us. A very moving, emotional, hilarious book following one man on various important days of his life. Definitely a must read for fans of great comics and great literature

A daytrip to last a "lifetime"
This is the best thing Ive seen this year. TV, film, book, art, everything, it was just a pleasure to look at. When you go past the mere reading and let the concept sink in, youre left with a truly stunning piece of work that will stay with you a long time, i say that having read it 3 days ago, but this novel has worked its way into my subconscious a number of times already! Ive recently got back into Graphic Novels, this makes me glad i have, it would have worked in any medium, but excels as a graphic novel.

You never know when your time is up
When some people think of Graphic Novels they think of costumed superheroes and villains doing battle at worlds end…. daytripper (I’m leaving the d lower because I think it is supposed to be) is definitely not one of those types of book. daytripper is more along the lines of Persepolis or The Rabbi’s Cat (both excellent if you haven’t read them). daytripper is, for the most part, set in the real world. We are introduced to Brás. A man who wants to write a novel, but is currently writing obituaries. Not your standard run of the mill obituaries though, the examples given in the book are almost poetic. He clearly has talent that is not being used in the right place. Over the course of 10 chapters or so we see Brás at different stages of life. Each section shows us a defining moment in the life of our character with a bit of a twist. I don’t want to give too much away, but death features pretty heavily throughout. I thought that each and every chapter was incredibly moving and thought provoking. The story coupled with brilliant artwork makes for what is probably the best graphic novel I have read. It is easy to see why this novel won both an Eisner and Harvey award, as well as frequently being named as one of the best graphic novels of the modern era. In fact, the reason I picked up daytripper in the first place is because I googled “best standalone graphic novels” and it came up a few times. While it isn’t a “happy go lucky” type of read I think everyone will find something to love here. Highly recommended.

Let yourself go and enjoy
I had no idea what to expect. And still, this surprised me and I wondered what I was reading. Joyous and sad. Highly recommended.

The road to nowhere, that we’re all on …
This is more of an experience than a read, ZEN comes to mind, wonderfully thought provoking ~ Where do we come from ? How did we get here ? Where are we going ? We have the intellect to find out, yet we cannot … (Anselm Kiefer 1997)

Stunning
This is a comic book, but also a work of art. It’s well worth the time to read. In fact it just might make all the rest of your life worth while.

Very poignant, enjoyed a lot
Loved the underlying reflections on mortality as the story builds. The tragedy of each death didn't hurt as much when another part of his life was explored.

La compré después de leer recomendaciones. Es un relato conmovedor, explicado y dibujado con gran calidad. Lo recomiendo sin duda. Ahora el problema es encontrar otras obras que sean tan buenas cómo esta.

I've been a fan of the autor's art since I read Casanova and Umbrella Academy (which I highly recommend). But It was the first time I read a story written by the Twin brothers. And what a wonderful tale of life and death. It would have been easy to fall in the «cliché» trap kind of story, but the two Brothers manage to create a compeling story, and achieve to make the reader feel the story. And I think it's an important thing. I won't say much more about the story since I don't want to spoil anything. On the art side, it's, as always with the Twin brothers, gorgeous. In fact, it may be their best work to date (not that their work before wasn't good, quite the contrary). The art have is «cartonny» and is at the sametime subtile. but, as I said before, the art achieve to not only believe that the representation of the world we see is real, but achieve to make the reader FEEl the story. In the end, the brazilian brothers manage to create a wonderful and moving story. Comic book lovers will love as «serious» read would too. In fact, it's these kind of story that should be presented to non-comics reader and not some super heroes comics (not that these story aren't good but it's too much buried under their complex continuity) Highly recommended

The most innovative or most thought-provoking product in its genre. You can almost feel the story.

Voilà une BD qui risque de vous marquer pour un moment, dessins et textes absolument fabuleux, message simple mais combien utile à répéter à l'envi: carpe diem
