Neat sound recorder
Although this is a memo taker it actually reaches into other areas by virtue of it's stereo capability and CD resolution recording setting. It can be used for recording music and has some useful settings to accomplish this. It's not quite up to studio quality and the built in microphones are a basic but decent quality, I have been using it with a Roland CS-10EM binaural headset to record my audio experiences when I'm out and about and the results are uncannily good! The headset works perfectly with the Sony recorder (as will any external microphone requiring plug-in power) and the recording quality is excellent, clean and low noise. Plenty of dynamic range available for most situations. For use out and about it is extremely convenient as it its about half the size of an old (non smart) mobile phone and the batteries last for more than enough time for a days roaming around. It transfers to PC easily enough with the built in USB connector. However, this arrangement does seem a bit vulnerable to being knocked out of place and I worry it might break! I think I would have preferred a socket and cable arrangement. It can take Micro SD cards but will store more than 5 hours of high quality WAV recording using the on board 4Gb memory so this device comes pre-loaded with a usable amount of memory. It does also record in MP3 format in which case you can store over 39 hours at 192kbps. The only possible negative is the display which has tiny text and can be difficult to read at times. But once you've got it set up the controls are easy so shouldn't present a problem. Altogether a very neat, high quality device.

Record talks, lectures and sermons wihout relying on a wireless microphone or a smart phone.
I first purchased this recorder during the Covid19 Pandemic as an easy way for our vicar to record sermons during the service with minimum complication. The vicar had the recorder in his pocket and used a clip-on microphone via the external microphone socket. Ease of use and indepence from a smart phone was very important in this application. I used a removable micro SD card to transfer the audio file to my computer for edit. I liked the small size, light weight, simple controls and use of AAA batteries. An essential feature was the ability to record in .wav format Other features (which I didn't use but were nice to have) include: - Built-in stereo microphones - headphone socket - built in extendable USB-A plug for connecting to a computer

handy little digital voice recorder
This is a very nice and handy little digital voice recorder, also plays music, so can be used as mp3 player. Records well, has lots of settings, eg, can be set up to record meetings or to dictate, etc. Its a very nice little size, easily fits into a pocket, has two (stereo) mics on each side of the unit, I also use a small lapel mic with it, which works great, (bought separately). Easy to use, nice buttons, comes in its own box, with instructions. Does what it says on the tin and works well, recommended. Only 4 stars just because theres nothing really outstanding about it, it just works as expected. Cheers

Good Buy - Worth The Money
I purchased this some time ago and have used it many times, really useful and great size. I have sued it to record interviews, very clear and able to use the USB to download onto Mac. quite easy to figure out, I've no doubt I'll get more out of it when I do eventually read the instructions.

The perfect standalone recorder for DJI Mic Mini!
I needed a standalone recorder for content I'm making about electric skateboards, while using the DJI Mic Mini. The receiver has an audio-out port and the 3.5mm cable (that came with the DJI Mic Mini) plugs straight into this Sony recorder! Recording quality at 192kbps MP3 is crystal clear (there's the option for LPCM) and the external mic input sensitivity is perfect when set to Low. The menu system is basic but easy to navigate. Needless to say this Sony recorder is great and I'm going to be adding a MicroSD Card for more storage. Highly recommended!

It’s a great piece of kit.
I have a problem with my memory so bought this to record phone calls (on speaker phone) from my doctors and hospital, and also doctors F2F appointments. It works extremely well; the recordings are crystal clear. Some reviews state that it takes to long to turn on and be ready to record, I have not found the time from sliding the switch down to being ready to record a problem (3-4 seconds) It’s small and compact and very easy to use. Transferring the recordings to a computer couldn’t be any simpler. Overall, I would mark 10/10 for ease of use, build quality and battery life. It’s a great piece of kit.

Disappointing
Pros: 1. Good recording quality. Microphones are sensitive enough and voice recording is very clear. 2. Good ergonomics. Sony ICD-PX470 is intuitive to use and sits comfortably in your hand. 3. Handy microSD port. Internal memory can be expanded with standard microSD cards. Contras: 1. Sony ICD-PX470 is not shielded against EMI. Voice recorded next to a mobile phone cannot be heard over interference. Old Sansa Clip mp3 player could record mobile phone conversation without any interference. 2. It takes 7 seconds to boot. No snap idea recording, no quick notes. Old Panasonic camcorder is ready to record video in less then 2 seconds. What might be taking a voice recorder that long is hard to imagine. 3. Accumulator batteries cannot be charged through USB port. Sony ICD-PX470 can use accumulators, but won't change them through USB port. Welcome to the nineties. 4. Due to device size retractable USB plug is difficult to use and there is no USB extension lead provided. The recorder is rather thick and USB plug is not exactly in the corner, so no other USB device can be plugged next to it and some USB ports might be completely inaccessible without a cable. 5. Not very good as mp3-player. There is no play list support and directory structure is disregarded too, so it would simply play all mp3 files it can find in a row. 6. No screen back-light, so might be tricky to use in poor light conditions, though to be fair, controls are designed well enough to operate without much looking at the screen. 7. No accessories. No cables / external microphone / accumulators. Just the recorder, alkaline batteries and printed user manual. I was hoping for more from SONY. This has to go back.
