I don't want to go over the top in reiterating what a great piece of cinema this is from a writing, casting and direction point of view. Many other reviewers have summed up what makes this film special, the sweet romance, the gentle humour and great writing and direction. Disney's first foray into grownup films (bare bums and snogging) is still enjoyable despite it taking its time to get to grown up Madison. What I do want to point out is that despite it being a film older than myself and a bog standard DVD edition it is really quite a good transfer and quality copy, admittedly it's not frame by frame restored bluray HD resolution, but it's not fizzing and fuzzing like some other cheap transfers which can evoke migraines. This is worth the purchase alone as so many treasured films of mine have been rendered barely watchable through a bodged transfer from VHS to DVD by the studios rushing out DVD titles from their libraries. This DVD is well worth its outstandingly cheap price (at the time of purchase), as it couples a really good DVD quality image with a fantastic film that stands the test of time even with its 80s technology and fashion!

I remember seeing this movie AT THE MOVIES - yes I'm THAT old !! It was showing on the television one Sunday afternoon and my daughter was entranced! She kicked and screamed up a fuss when the ads came on. She just stared and stared at Daryl Hannah (ie Madison) so I thought I'd look around to see if it was on DVD. I thought I'd find in bargain bins at local department stores but to no avail. When I saw it here on Amazon.uk and at such a cheap price, I snapped it up. I'm very happy with the price and it was delivered in next to no time at all. Suffice to say, this movie is my daughter's obsession! She has now developed a love of all things mermaid. And a note to any parents - this movie is perfect for young children. There are no sex scenes, no swearing, no violence. It's just a really fun movie with some sad bits and happy bits complete with a happy ending. A lovely film that my 3 year old daughter watches again and again and again.

A story of a mermaid, sounds so tacky. But this one has you smiling all the way through it.Brilliant casting on all characters, make this a Classic Must Have in My Collection Film. Tom Hanks as a boy falls from a boat, but doesn't drown , because a young girl watches him fascinated, and rescues him. Time passes, and she is given a chance to leave her aquatic life behind ( And her tail) to persue the boy she helped years before. Learning to talk , walk, eat properly.( Watch it!)All has comedy , and sentiment by the bucket load. John Candy has a cameo performance as Hanks's Brother.And Eugene Levy ( Ghostbusters)plays a dasterdly scientist, out for fame and recognition.To prove the existence of Mermaids. Just a feel good film, and maybe leaves us all with a smile, and a wish, that 'i wish i could swim like that, and with Daryl Hannah. Enough said. 5* i love it.

My wife wanted it for a particular track but is now getting in to the others a bit more.

This had been my favourite movie when I was younger, I have been telling my daughter, 4, all about the mermaid (she loves mermaids) and told her about how Madison says her name in Mermaid language and all the tvs shatter, she really wanted to see the movie so I bought it, we've watched it a few times, she loves this movie as much as I do, Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks are just perfect for this movie, it always brings a tear to my eye when Madison is 'discovered to be a mermaid'. The movie takes you on highs, slight lows, laughter, you can really be taken away within this movie, go with it and enjoy, it's brilliant and a must-see-movie for everyone. Some of the scenes where the mermaid is swimming about in the sea are so lovely and you can believe she's a real mermaid, her tail looks the part and she plays the part beautifully. You also get to see the auditions of Daryl and Tom in bonus features which is nice to see.

Just the best, the most charming, the most inoffensive, the most genuine romantic comedy you will ever see. It must also be the only film containing adult and suggestive humour (right from the outset) with a PG rating. Indeed, Disney didn't want to make this picture precisely because of its adult content, so they created TouchStone to make it instead. My favourite lines: Chef: "What happened?" Walter (disguised as a waiter, seeking to expose Madison, his arm in a sling): "I broke my arm; it's broken in sixteen places" Chef: "Why are you here?" Walter: (pause, thinking) The union sent me. Anyone remember the other mermaid film? Exactly.

a boy who cannot swim on a ship falls into the ocean and is saved by a young girl,who gets him back to the surface and disappears.later in his early 30s he wants to go to an island and falls in again and is knocked out by the boat his was in,finding himself on the shore he see s a woman ,tries to talk to her as she runs naked into the sea and becomes a mermaid.not long after finding his wallet on the ocean bed she goes in search of the boy she fell in love with,funny at times ,a love story and yet another of the 80s best films,i recommend this

Colecciono todas las ediciones de esta película y en general este DVD está bien, pero el menú interactivo que tiene no es el mismo que te muestra en la caja, es el mismo menú de otras ediciones y la única diferencia es que incluye el idioma español, todo el demás contenido extra es el mismo. Es una gran película, no duden en comprarla en esta u otra edición.

"Playback prohibited by area limitations" Sender: 1 Apollo Rise, Columbia House Farnborough, Hampshire (England) Okay I got the second one (Replacement) never had a chance to send the old one in yet. (Work hours) And the replacement doesn't work. Same thing. I wouldn't suggest ordering from this place at all. It'll probably cost more than the product is worth to send them back. Tired of messing with it.
