Modern Guitar Method Grade 2

Not bad books,it is taught in an old school way. No tabs but teaches you how to read music and the fretboard notes at the same time. Great books for younger kids who are beginning guitar and have someone to help guide them. Parent,relative,teacher etc. For older people who want to play guitar, 40 and over, there are other books that would be better.

My son's guitar teacher recommended this series of books and it has been very helpful with him learning to read guitar music. My son played very well guitar but if you put sheet music in front of him he could not play it, now he can sight read. Most guitar players do not read and play they just play. My son previously had experience sight reading when playing violin but just not when playing guitar and these books have improved his reading when playing guitar, now in school when he is handed sheet music for Jazz Band he can immediately start playing most of it. You do need to go through all of the grade methods to be a very good reader though, my son is still in Guitar Method Grade 2. You do have to be very dedicated and practice otherwise these books will not help you.

This material is within the range of someone working through the Grade 2 Method book, but has some very challenging material. Unlike some technique workout books, there is enough variation in the material to keep it interesting and motivating. This book complements the Mel Bay method, but I see no reason it couldn't be easily used with other methods, or even by someone making an effort to add some discipline to their learning and daily practice. The material in this book also provides a tremendous workout. If you apply yourself your hands will get tired. Stamina as well as precision with speed will undoubtedly come with time. If you, like me, are teaching yourself using the Mel Bay method, this book is invaluable! I expect I will use these studies well beyond Book 2.

Nice method book! Big print,nice tunes,a lot of scale studies. Easy turning of pages ,book lays flat ,samples are nice and clear! Melbays guitar books have always been top notch! And it goes on! ,

First, I know nothing about guitars. But my adult son is self taught, and he asked for this book by Mel Bay. I think that any of the Mel Bay books are very good and you would not go wrong by buying any of the series. For some reason it was hard to find this grade 2 book, but Amazon had it and I was relieved. Very reasonably priced as well.

This book seems to be in a logical order of concepts. However, I believe it might be a bit hard for second level. The pieces progress quite quickly in my opinion. But the concepts are sound and pictures and music looks great on the page.

Love all his books

This is the best book (the Mel Bay series) to teach anyone to play the guitar.
