Dometic SeaStar Xtreme Control Cable, CCX179XX

This cable solved my hard shifting problem. I had lubricated my existing cable that ran freely when disconnected from the boat except didn't when actually under load made shifting hard probably having worn a groove in the sheath. This cable is lined with UMHD, a tough, slippery form of polyethylene. Fitting are good and fit perfectly. Replaced the original with this and was fastidious about getting the adjustment of the cables right and, voila, no more shift problem. Make sure you order the correct length and route the cable so there are not tight turns. This cable is about 1/3 the cost of an OEM cable.

Overall they are working well. Installed on my 1990 bayliner Capri 20ft outboard with a 2001 year Mercury 150Hp saltwater edition carbureted motor. Don't mount or zip tie these anywhere within about 2 feet of the control box or they are really tough and bind up. Not happy how they seem to bend a bit where the metal rod inserts into the sleeve. Not really bent, but cocked. Look at picture.

I went deer hunting via boat this year and it was well below freezing in the morning. My shift and throttle cables were frozen so my boat wouldn't shift gears out of neutral or throttle up and down. I'm a person with a contingency plan for everything, but this problem was completely unforeseen. We put some hand warmers on the lines and waited an hour and luckily they melted and we were able to go. When I got home I immediately ordered new lines. These Seastar lines replaced my mercury ones on a 2001 50hp. Direct swap. They are definitely an upgrade. Much smoother shifts, and no worry of frozen lines becoming a problem.

Fits like factory

Worked on my 2005 90hp Mercury will no problems, will see how long they will last. For the price I would buy them again.

I went from the Mercury Platnium cables which were dated 2003 to the Xtreme and the difference was like night and day. First off, the install was really easy since these cables were extremely flexible, more so than the aging Merc cables. Took the boat out today and shifting was extremely smooth and throttle response was unlike anything I’ve felt before! It almost felt like a fly by wire control it was so smooth. I have no doubt the old cables were also Teleflex but times change and so does technology. This was well worth it!

I am very happy with my purchase. Bought a used outboard motor but needed two new longer cables. Following the measuring directions made the install look perfect.
