3-Piece Ratchet Set, 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" Drive Ratchet Wrench, 72-Tooth Quick-Release Reversible Socket Wrench,CR-V Handle,Teardrop Head,EVA Storage

My 1/4" ratchet came with a plastic part over the head and I can't see how it works or if you need to remove it. Hope someone can help me out with this issue

I wanted a set of ratchets to keep in my car for those unexpected occasions when you need tools. I didn't want to put any of my Craftsman, Gearwrench or SnapOn ratchets that normally reside in my tool chest in the car in case they inadvertently got damp. This set fits that need perfectly. I wasn't expecting a refined tool at this price point, only a serviceable tool that could be counted on when needed. I was actually pleasantly surprised the first few times that I used them as they were relatively smooth and got the job done with no fuss. There are just a few niggling points that I can overlook at this price. The 1/4" and 3/8" ratchets' machine screws are flush with the base of the ratcheting mechanism. The 1/2" inch ratchet's screws protruded below the base by several threads. These found a way to snag on my skin or work gloves when in use. I simply removed them, ground them down with with my Dremel and re-inserted with a drop of thread locker. Problem solved. My only other minor gripe is that the back drag on the 1/4" ratchet is a bit high. This required that I hold the socket while using the wrench so that the ratcheting mechanism would engage and not simply move the bolt back and forth.

I got these for the combination of quick release mechanism and 72T gearing. I like the Pearhead (they say teardrop) ratchet design, with the positive toggle-switch on the back for reversing the action. The handles are easy to grip and have a good length. The 72-tooth (72T) ratcheting mechanism provides a nice 5-degree swing when you need it, and the movement generally seems to be smooth as you move the ratchet through a longer arc. The chrome finish is well done and the tools are smooth and burr-free. The seem to be reasonably well-built and durable. The EVA Foam tray is a nice extra for storing these in the drawer of a tool chest, and should keep them looking nice for a while. I should note that EVA is the same material used in the soles of running shoes and so it is durable and should last a really long time (as long as you don’t pour solvents on it) – It’s a bit nicer than using old-school molded polystyrene trays, which were little more than cheap packing material. Overall, this PHIRAH 3-piece set is a solid, economical choice for quick-release 72T ratchets.
