The best retrofit, especially for euro style locks
I have a door with a Euro style lock (combined deadbolt and handle with a locking cylinder). Because of this I could not use a normal “smart lock”. I tried another option which failed miserably, but this product was fantastic! It literally installed in minutes with only a Philips head screw driver, and fit my door perfectly. The design is brilliant. As you can see from the picture my setup required a non-standard installation, but the design handled it without a problem. I was concerned that the sticky pad mounting would not hold up, but it has without a problem. All in all there was zero modification to my existing lock, zero drilling, and just adjusting the height with the screw driver. It has also worked flawlessly. I live in a pretty hard environment with high humidity, but this has worked like a champ, not once failing to lock or unlock. Not only that, manual usage with either the key or the knob is as smooth and easy as when it was just the lock. My door uses a double lock (turn the handle twice to lock) and this learned that and always works. Finally the hub integration is flawless. I get notifications anywhere about the door locking or unlocking. I can lock/unlock the door anywhere, and best of all I can just say “Lock Bedroom” on Alexa/Google and the door locks. Unlocking requires me to say a PIN for safety but Google/Alexa prompts me for that after I say “Unlock Bedroom”. The bedroom door is an exterior door, and the elements have not affected the operation at all.

Installed in a classroom door
Teacher here. I bought this bundle back in early November 2022, but didn't get to install it until the last week of November. Since I teach in a classroom of 24 students, I wanted to wait until the Switch Bot Lock ran out of batteries before I wrote my review. TL;DR at the end of the review. I work at an elementary in the southern United States and after everything that happened last year, my school district now requires to have all doors locked at all times, including classrooms. So, this created an annoyance in which the teacher, or assigned students, unlock and lock the door whenever a person or student goes in or out of the classroom. It wasn't that bad until I started noticing how often the door needed to be unlocked and locked, which started affecting instructional time. So being the techy that I am, I started looking for something that would convert my classroom door deadbolt into a smartish deadbolt that wasn't too expensive, since it was coming out of my pocket, and that it didn't need major deadbolt modification to work. The Switch Bot Lock ended up being exactly what I wanted. Knowing that it only installs over the deadbolt, is removable, and allows manual unlocks/locks, whether by hand or key, was the perfect solution. Once I got approval from my principal to install this lock, I had it up and running the following day. Installation was simple and setup was just as easy through the app. The only thing that might possibly cause it to not work is connecting the hub to the school internet. You would have to check if you can use the school internet for that first. That's why I had to get approval first. Other than that, connecting it to the internet and finishing up the set up was a breeze. Once installed, it was only then that the locking and unlocking annoyance went away. I was shocked to find out that my door was locked and unlocked roughly 300 times a day! This sounds like a lot, and it is, but it isn't only students that are coming in an out of the classroom, other teachers, admin, janitors, and so on. I also ended up installing the finger print keypad outside my door so that students could enter the classroom freely, without having to use the doorbell given to us (another annoyance in itself). They know the passcode and they were told not to give it to anyone else. So far, no other students, other than my own, have entered the classroom with the code. I did give the finger print reader 4 stars though since it doesn't really work with a child's finger, hence why the use a code instead. Other than that, it works just fine. I also purchased the Switch Bot Button and paired it with the lock so that I could have full control of when the door unlocks. I didn't want to only rely on the app on my phone since I tend to leave my phone on my desk while teaching. Now, on to the battery life. Like I mentioned above, the door opens roughly 300 times daily. I just got the low battery notification today (1/17). So, it's about a month and a half, to two month battery life span. It isn't the best, but I rather deal with changing batteries every two months or so than going back to locking and unlocking the door. Conclusion: If you're a teacher being required to have your door locked at all times, and you're in the fence on getting this because you're not sure if it works or not, it does. It's one last thing we now have to worry about. Not only do my students and myself love to see the door lock and unlock itself, it has wowed my coworkers and administrators as well. I would definitely buy this all over again. TL;DR: Teacher installs this smart lock on classroom door to relieve the hassle of unlocking and locking a door 300 times a day and gets, roughly, a two month battery life span.

Good but could use improvements
This is a good option for converting a regular pick to a smart lock not showing on the outside. Majority of time it works good . It closes and opens within close range with app on phone to open & close . This without WiFi just on blue tooth . However it still has some glitches where the commands get confused when you manually open and the try and use the app to close . And it will get stuck in unresponsive. You have to recluse on app and the reopen to get it to respond correctly. For the most part is a good system and it does what it says . But these small glitches they have to work at it to improve. It is a very affordable way to convert lock to smart which sometimes you need

Worked well at first but started jamming after 3 months.
Update: When I initially bought this it worked really well for about 3 months. Then, it began to jam, it wouldn't open the latch and I couldn't open the latch myself. I had to remove it completely in order for the door to lock and unlock. Upon closer examination, it seemed that it had been moving slightly every time the lock was locked or unlocked. I didn't have the time to reinstall again until a couple of weeks ago. This time, it didn't even work at all. It kept jamming from the start. I couldn't lock or unlock the door, not even manually. I had to again completly remove it. Now, I don't have anymore of the 3m tape left and I'm wondering, is it even worth it to try again since it didn't work at all the second time. The completely ridiculous thing, which I didn't know when I bought it, is that there is a one year warranty, which should still well be valid, except that Switchbot will not honor it unless it's been purchased from their website. So if you're in a similar position to mine and you've bought their product anywhere other than their website, you're out of luck. These people seem to care so much about helping you when you first buy their product but after that, when they've got a good review from you, it's radio silence, you're on your own. I really wanted to like this, I wish it had continued to work and work consistently. I bought this Switchbot lock because I wanted a smart lock but I didn't want the hassle of changing out my existing lock. This worked out perfectly. I got the lock, touch Keypad and mini hub combo which you'll need if you want to be able to access the lock or door lock status remotely. Installation was pretty simple. The only thing I was a little frustrated with was that the installation video links were not included in the manual and I had to go looking for them. Also, the tool to open the battery door of the keypad was included but they didn't say in the manual what it is supposed to be used for and that was a little frustrating too. But once I found the installation videos everything became clear and from then on it was so simple to install and set up. Now I can lock/unlock the door from anywhere I have an internet connection. I have multiple ways to lock/unlock the door. And I can check to ensure that I've locked the door from anywhere with an internet connection. And I can still use my existing key in case of emergencies or when there's a power outage. All without drilling fresh holes in my door. I love this product.

Could be a lot better.
UPDATE: the product itself hasn't improved much through firmware, but Switchbot has sent me a lengthy email citing fixes relating to the latest firmware for switchbot and other notes relating to this specific review. This is some of the best response to feedback I've had from any tech company and I applaud them for doing that, hence I've buffed my 3 stars to a 5. Definitely a first gen product, though still (thankfully) reliable enough to be a day to day smartlock. Auto lock works... 80% of the time. I end up relying on re-lock in order to lock my door for the 20%. There really needs to be an interface that shows the strength of the magnet you placed on the door so that you can tell if the lock is detecting whether or not it's closed reliably. Speaking of the magnet, why isn't there a UI element showing us whether or not the lock thinks it's closed or not? It's really hard to diagnose the autolock because of this, as I have no idea if the lock thinks the door is closed or open. There also needs to be some interface dedicated to the threshold for unlock detection. My door unlocks the lock as soon as you push down the handle, but the rotation of the lock when you do that is different if you were to unlock the lock directly. This meant there needed to be a lot of finaggling done in order to get the switchbot to detect the door's unlock rotation properly. There are a lot of other minor issues (such as the app, which is awful), but don't let any of these criticisms deter you from buying the switchbot. It's basically the only product of its class that's able to be installed on top of a normal lock, and the only smartlock people who are renting get to install on their doors. If you're willing to deal with a lot of trial and error and debugging, it's definitely worth the purchase. Still, will be buying the gen 2 as soon as that comes out.

Absolutely Amazing
This is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a secure, reliable and easy to use smart lock. For any renters out there, this is very renter friendly as it does not require you to alter or remove your existing door lock. We all have those moments where we wonder if we locked the door and with the 1 minute auto lock feature, I no longer have to worrry about forgetting to lock the door. Additionally, I have the option of going into the app, and it will tell me weather or not my front door is open and I can close or open it from the app. You have the option of setting up a pin, using the key card, or using the nfc tags which are compatible with both android and IOS . I also love that you can create temporary codes. For visitors. I used a temporary code when the plumber had to fix my kitchen sink while I was at work. My Grandma is visiting and I was able to create a pin for her that she’ll remember because she had a hard time remembering the pin I use. I love the sturdy design an the fact that it has an anti-theft system and a tamper-proof design. Setting up and using the lock is also incredibly simple and straightforward. I highly recommend getting this lock. It is a great investment.

A great option with a big Achilles heel
This smart lock is a great option for anyone who feels daunted by the idea of replacing door lock hardware. But in trying to cater to this audience - an audience that I was a member of - SwitchBot relied on using an adhesive-based mounting system. While on paper this seems like a great, impermanent option it comes at the expense of the smart lock actually remaining on your door year after year. The smart lock works by using a plastic enclosure to act as "thumbs" to turn your door lock. In so doing, it encounters some degree of resistance that it pushes through with relative ease. However, over time this resistance from turning the lock caused the adhesive to loosen. The adhesive that came with the lock failed for me after a year. Even in researching the type of 3M adhesive they used and buying some additional tape, the lock would go on to fall off after a few months each time. Compare this to the same adhesive that's used on the exterior keypad, which despite being exposed to the elements, remained solidly planted because it's not encountering any force/resistance like the interior smart lock is. Worse yet, there's no accessory to make the device more permanent. There's no optional plate that can be added to allow you to drill into the door if you do decide to go that option. After almost 2 years, I've now retired my Switchbot smart lock. The machine itself worked - and continues to work well. It rarely jammed and the app had a suite of options that my new Eufy smart lock doesn't, such as widget support on my iPhone, more options for setting the auto-lock function, a fob, and more options for sound alerts. The keypad is even better in many ways on the Switchbot because the buttons are tactile and proviide more feedback than the Eufy's flat glass. But this is all pointless if the machine itself continues to fall off my door because the adhesive can't withstand the force of the lock turning. As of this writing, the new version of the Smart Lock is about to come out. Reading its description, this unit will allow you to screw it into your current deadbolt for a more sturdy fit. This is what they should have done with this first version. And if you're reading this review and contemplating going with the cheaper first gen version, I strongly encourage you to reconsider.

Finally a perfect solution!
SwitchBot is the only reasonably priced digital lock solution I’ve found for my glass entry door that doesn’t require permanent modification or custom parts. Besides working flawlessly and being straightforward to install (1hr including securing lock, setting up keypad, hub, and firmware updates) is that SwitchBot includes all the hardware and accessories you will possibly need regardless of your door type. I fully expected to have to modify a part or at least cut adhesives to fit my special door hardware, but they provided so many options it was easy to use out of box. And SB advertises that in special cases you can reach out to their tech support for them to make a special adaptor. Luckily no need for me, but nice seeing that option is something they’ve thought of. Keypad with fingerprint is great. Kids absolutely love having this functionality. App functionality also intuitive and easy to setup and use. After 1 month zero issues. Highly recommend!
