Wait...don't send it back just yet...
Ok, so when I first got this I had the hardest time opening and closing it. I thought to myself "what a piece of junk." But then I read other reviews on other wooden bread boxes...it seems you need to some what condition the track area on the bread box where it would slide open and close. To do this all you need is a birthday candle or some type of wax. Luckily I had just had my son's 5th birthday and we had extra birthday cake candles. I took one candle put, it inside of the track area and rubbed up and down on both sides. Before I knew it, this bread box was Heaven Sent. It opens and closes so very smoothly. Glad I read other reviews and gave it a try. It looks great and works great ❤️👍

Was iffy, glad I purchased though
After ready a lot of the reviews I was VERY iffy about this bread box. After much deliberation I decided to go with my gut and purchase the assembled one, the $3 difference didn’t seem worth it to me in savings with getting the self assemble one. I am so happy that I did not let those negative reviews sway me! This box is sturdy, cute and fits all my breads AND tortillas. The door slides perfectly, does not get stuck like other reviewers mentioned and the entire box itself was well made and intact. No regrets over here! :)

I feel so mixed about this.
I bought the regular size already assembled. Assembly is great and the box is in good shape, roll top slides well. The slats are a pain to clean when something gets in there. I measured our bread loaf prior to purchasing it, and it does fit, but not with as much extra space as I imagined. It just seems odd sized. What I didn’t take into consideration was the measurements weren’t for storage space, but for the outer size. You lose 1/2-1” space in all directions to the thickness of sides of the box if that helps anyone else. The bigger box is only an inch or so bigger in either direction, but I think it would have held more as far as being able to fit a pack of buns or bagels or the extra partial loaf in as well, but this does hold our bread and tortillas. Sometimes we just still have part of a loaf on the counter (which for me kind of defeats the purpose of reducing counter clutter). If you’re more than a one or two person household, I’d go for the bigger box. I honestly don’t know if I’d recommend paying forty dollars for a breadbox you have to assemble yourself though. It’s not a terrible box, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it sturdy either. I did find a nice 14” serving platter here on Amazon that fits well to hold the fruit we keep on the counter on top of the box. Overall it looks pretty nice.

KEEPS RODENTS AND TEENAGERS OUT
I've always thought of bread boxes as a quaint and homey element - a relic from a golden, bygone era when bread and ice required their own special boxes. I always wondered how a bread box would keep bread any fresher than a plastic bag, but then, after moving into a house built during the Fillmore administration, I realized what bread boxes are actually for - to keep disease-ridden, sociopathic mice from chewing through your bread bag, eating half your bread, and defecating all over it and your kitchen while you sleep. This bread box excels on all fronts - it looks the part, it holds the bread, and, most importantly, since purchasing it, I haven't had to throw away a single carbohydrate that had been stored therein. It's nice and everything to know that bamboo is a sustainable resource, but it's even nicer to know that bamboo causes mice teeth to shatter, destroying the mouse's will to chew and poop. The roll top operates smoothly and forms a nice, rodent-tight seal - and because it hides the bread from plain sight, it is also effective against teenagers.

Looks good, works well
It's a bamboo breadbox! so.... it's a box for your bread made out of bamboo. Has a rolltop door that works well and lets you get to your bread. Yep, does what it says and looks as good as the picture. If you need a breadbox, this will do it! If mine is stolen by a bread box bandit, I would buy another to replace it, otherwise it looks to be of quality construction to last for quite a while.

This product is ok
This product is ok and will work for what I wanted, but I really expected better quality. As in some of the other reviews, mine also had a bad chemical smell. I wiped it with a damp cloth and let it sit a week, and it was mostly gone, but I would prefer that not so many chemicals were used. The parts of the box that are wood seem decent quality. The rolltop is strangely made. The wood parts are glued to a mesh fabric. We will see if that holds up. My main complaint is that the back and bottom of it is not made of wood but of very thin press board with a veneer that resembles wood. The description says that the box is made of bamboo.

Very nice breadbox 👍
I replaced our old breadbox with this one (redecorating the kitchen). The handle/door slides very smoothly & it seems to be pretty sturdy overall. The big difference between our old breadbox & this one is the height. This box is several inches shorter than our old one, but I’m it’s large enough for a regular loaf of bread, though, that’s what counts!

EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE
We got this bread bin a few years back and initially were very pleased with it. Having moved house it stopped being what we needed so it went on the fire. I was horrified to see how flammable it was, the flames were green and it burned fiercely. We worried the glass on the fire would blow out Be in no doubt that if that was in your kitchen near something hot and it went up, you’d lose your whole house very very quickly. A shame because it looked great but I don’t view it as a safe product and would strongly advise others against.
