Great choice for 360-preferring players
I haven't been much of a fan of the Dual Shock since last gen, when both Nintendo and Microsoft put out controllers that finally dethroned the Dual Shock as king of the hill(granted Saturn's analog pad was better for some game types) - especially the Xbox's S Controller, which was refined for the 360. This controller is the answer to all of us who don't like the Dual Shock for any number of reasons: the weight, small size/shape, analog placement, triggers... all the best parts of the 360 controller have beeen made compatible for those of us who play primarily on 360 and for PS3 only owners looking to switch it up. The controller feels almost the same as the 360 controller; roughly the same shape and around the weight of the wired 360 controller, so it's a little heavier than the DS3. It has neat crosshatching texture on the grips and a smoothy, soft rubbery feel on the whole controller; it's very comfortable to hold for extended play. The analogs are reversed, with the left in the promary position where the d-pad is on the official controller, and the analogs have the dish shaped tops instead of Sony's mushrooms for a bit better grip and control. The L1/L2's are pretty much as squashy as the DS3 set, but the L2/R2 are much improved, and are now wide triggers, which is great, since most people with the Dual Shock will tell you you need to buy those little addon triggers to make them tolerable. Unlike the wired version by Power A, this one has SixAxis, so that's definitely a plus if you have games supporting it. I tested it with Uncharted 1 and Trash Panic, and it works well. As for the dead zone issues, maybe it's more apparent for people who play FPS, but I don't and had no aiming problems playing through Uncharted 2 on Crushing mode or with any other games like Yakuza 3 or Final Fantasy XIII-2. I would read other reviews if you are really concerned, but honestly the dead zone seems about as much as the 360 controller it's based on. The charge lasts a really long while before you have to plug it back up, but the cord they give you is really long, so playing while it's charging isn't a big deal either. Overall, I do think it's better than the Dual Shock, and it's cheaper too. If you're looking for a good alternate analog controller, this is the one to check out.

Why does this cheese grater look like an xbox controller?
This controller must have been designed by a team of orangutans. Big dumb ones with leathery hands that can't feel the pain of a thousand stabby things digging into their palms! The spiky grips are flat out painful if used for any more than 20 minutes. I cannot understand how this product made it through the design process and got approved. Its obvious no one at Power A actually held this thing or they would have had to have had a serious "wtf... aw hell no!" moment. I played some GOW III, NHL 11 and MW2 with this, trying to convince myself that it didn't completely suck. But lets face it folks when we lie to ourselves, deep down somewhere we know we're full of it. I could have overlooked springy joysticks. And the throw away d-pad. I could have even gotten over the weird, spongy trigger fail(also the trigger edges can't fit the ps3 trigger ad-ons for the DS3 controller). The 360 controller is far superior to DS3 in every area except d-pad. This controller is far superior to a turd in that it merely functions like a steaming pile of [...] instead of also smelling like one. Someone will hopefully, eventually get the 360 controller port right, but the nincompoops at Power A will not make the history books with this flawed, barely functional attempt. Giving this a strong DO NOT BUY, unless you feel like explaining to all your friends why your new paperweight looks like an xbox controller. The only astounding thing it managed to do was actually make me happy to hold my PS3 controller again, after I had to bandage my shredded, bleeding hands. All in all the experience was like cheating on your significant other with someone very hot and appealing, who winds up giving your hands syphilis... stay home and enjoy what you have kids.

the perfect solution to the ps3's unfortunate controller
i'm so relieved that i found this controller. i was so excited when i got my ps3 after years of owning an xbox360-- all the games i'd read about all these years were finally within my grasp. excitement soon turned to frustration (and cramping) when, after just a few hours of gameplay, i realized the limitations of sony's controller-- tiny size, unfortunately placed (and rounded) analog sticks, select and start buttons virtually unreachable behind said analog sticks, and tiny, rounded trigger buttons. i'd never given a single thought to my xbox360 controller, but now, set in stark relief against sony's, it's brilliant, intuitive design and sturdy construction really began to shine through. sometimes, after playing with the sony controller for a few hours, i would actually pick up my 360 controller and just appreciate how good it felt in my hands. when i searched amazon thinking that an xbox360 styled ps3 controller must exist, i found the pro elite. i quickly ordered it along with a copy of uncharted: drake's fortune. well, i just finished that game (about 10 hours of gameplay) using the pro elite, and i must say that i'm really quite impressed. there's none of the cheapness so often found with 3rd party peripherals. and the design is close enough to that of the 360's controller that it felt like slipping into an old pair of jeans. it's not exactly the same, though. the triggers aren't quite as pronounced, the textured "handles" feel pretty good but are sort of inconsequential, the d-pad feels a bit floaty (though don't they all), and it doesn't have quite as much heft to it, which i miss. the back-lit buttons look awesome, and are quite useful as i play in a darkened room much of the time. and the dead zone that you've most likely read about already is there, though to my eye it's not as huge as some have said and i didn't even notice it after a few minutes of game play. i admit, though, that i don't play a lot of shooters-- half-life, quake and turok are pretty much it for me. i'm planning on playing through the resistance series very soon, so maybe i'll make an addendum then. overall, this is a great controller, and a real godsend for those ps3 owners who are spoiled by the 360 controller, have large hands (as i do), or just appreciate non-poorly thought out controllers (yeah you, sony). the only thing that would make the pro elite better is if it were actually made by microsoft-- and i never thought i would utter those words within my lifetime. well done, Power A!

The controller is great and works amazing for PC play. You do however need to download an emulator like motionjoy but just look at a youtube video to sort that out, its so easy. The controller works as a 360 one, and works amazingly with Steams big picture and normal modes. It's my favourite controller, the grips are great and I don't find myself sweating with it. It's shaped like a 360 controller, works on the PC and PS3. Also, wireless is great, I havn't tested the distance on the controller to the adapter, but it reaches across a room with ease, no lag or disconnection. Seriously, I dont understand why people rage about this controller when they are talking about games such as FPS, the sensitivity for a game is set in the GAMES SETTINGS. It's not the controller, the sensitivity is the same for ALL controllers until changed in the Game - Control settings for every game. 5/5 Easily.

Ive had a lot of third party controllers over the years, but this POWER A PRO ELIT controller is the best PS3 controller you will ever buy and its not even expensive. I wasn't aware that Power A makes such excellent quality controllers { Thumbs Up Power A }. Its just like an Xbox 360 controller in shape, feel and the button and 2 toggle layouts. The 4 action buttons light up a pretty RED or you can turn them off . The dongle ( wireless USB piece is easy to set up -5 seconds ) and it comes with a cord if you desire being tethered to the PS3. It took about 3 hours to charge the battery in the controller (Use the PS3 or any USB port will do ) and the charge last about the same as the Xbox 360 or PS3 controller battery life. The response on this controller is far better than any Xbox 360 or PS3 controller made to date, and the front triggers are a blessing in both shape and in response. Dont hesitate buy one today if you own a PS3.
