It's worked like a charm for us!
My significant other and I both suffer from insomnia related to anxiety. You know the kind--where you lay in bed and things that happened 10 years ago haunt you into being wide awake. After over a week of both of us sleeping horribly, I was desperate. I'll admit this was somewhat of an impulse buy. I saw it on a facebook video and decided I was so sleep deprived, it was worth a try because there was a free return and we were exhausted. After nearly a month of using it nightly, I have to admit that I am quite shocked at how well it works. We don't use it nightly, just on nights we consider ourselves to be at risk for being wide awake all night, and each night we've used it, we've slept like absolute babies. Some pointers: **Take it for what it is. THIS IS NOT A CURE. It is essentially a distraction technique that helps you escape your thoughts through intentional breathing. It calms you and allows your body to fall into a natural sleep. It isn't a magic cure and it requires dedication to the process. If you can't commit to something like that, then this isn't for you. **It is battery operated. If you're an earth friendly household (like us), I would recommend simultaneously purchasing a set of rechargeable batteries. **It doesn't work well when it's directly against a wall (on a nightstand, for example). The light kind of gets distorted on the wall instead of projecting onto the ceiling. We have a bench on the end of the bed we put ours on that works just fine. A larger piece of furniture would also work, but something that sticks out atleast 2 feet from the wall is my recommendation. Hope this helps!!!

Sadly, just another useless insomnia gimmick
The idea behind this product seemed promising to me, but it fails miserably on implementation. One major problem is that the pace of the breathing (at the beginning of the cycle anyway) is faster than my normal breathing. So it slows your breathing down, but only after first speeding it up?? That seems rather pointless. I could feel my heart rate increasing as I tried to keep up with the pace of the breathing. It felt like instead of decreasing anxiety, it was making me more anxious. Also, the light circles on the ceiling were very diffuse (and my ceilings are of just average height) which made the pattern difficult to follow. This was still the case even after I put my glasses on (although if I had to wear my glasses to fall asleep that would not have been much help). And lastly, related I believe to the diffusion issue, is that the pattern goes dark for an uncomfortable period of time between the circle getting smaller and getting larger again - which is not conducive to establishing rhymic breathing. As a lifelong insomniac, I genuinely wanted this product to work and so I tried it many times over several nights thinking I could get the hang of it with some practice, but, because of the issues I explained above, it just did not work for me, and I am rather skeptical about it working for anyone. Note that the production quality on the videos on YouTube is a little too good to be believable - I think they are actually infomercials. I normally do not write reviews, but I feel a certain obligation to do so when I return a product that has been used, which I also normally would not do. And, I want my fellow insomniacs to have the complete picture before forking out any hard-earned money on this product, given that many, like me, are willing to spend anything for the promise of more restless sleep. My advice is to save your money.

Worth a shot. If it doesn’t help you sleep, it will at least help you quiet your mind.
I have struggled with insomnia for as long as I can remember, and I’ve tried just about every method and product available. Nothing has been 100 percent successful or consistent, but I have found the Dodow to be a very helpful tool — particularly if your sleep troubles arise from being unable to “turn off your brain.” Pros: - Affordable, one-time purchase - Small size, easily portable - No cords or accessories - A helpful guide to breathing and relaxation that doesn’t wake me up if I fall asleep before the guide is finished, unlike other CDs and apps. - An effective distractor from anxiety and overactive thought patterns - Two time settings that allow me to tailor my experience dependent upon my sleep needs. Cons: - The Dodow lights up an entire room, especially a room with light blocking curtains. I can still see some of the light through closed eyelids, even on the low light setting. -If you’re an anxious person, you may find yourself getting wound up if you can’t quite synchronize your breathing with the light. This is a mindset issue, not a product issue, but it is something to consider and reflect upon before you buy. -The light projects directly above the Dodow. Sitting on my night stand, the light projects decently far to the right from my head, meaning focusing on the light can be physically uncomfortable. I am not sure how well the Dodow helps me sleep, but it does help me to at least relax and quiet my mind. It is useful while I am trying to sleep and when I am trying to clear my head. As with any sleep remedy, the Dodow is not a cure-all, but it is a useful tool to keep in my toolbox.

So happy to be off sleeping pills!!
I would give this a 4.5 star if that were an option, because the only thing I dislike about the Dodow so far is getting it to aim on the ceiling where I can see it. When I put it on the nightstand the light just isn't in the right spot. So I ended up putting it on my stomach, which works fine, although a little inconvenient. I haven't found the light to be too bright, as some users have complained. The first night I found it very difficult to keep my mind on my breathing and took a sleeping pill for added insurance. The second night was easier and I fell asleep fairly quickly and slept well without a sleeping pill for the first time in years! Last night was my third night. I did the 20 minute cycle and kept dozing off before it ended. I'm getting better at concentrating on my breathing. I use the mental reminder "inhale, inhale, inhale, in" and "exhale, exhale, exhale, out" to help me. Last night it did take longer to fall asleep after the cycle completed, maybe because I had to wake up enough to put the unit on the nightstand. But once I was asleep I slept just as well as I did with a sleeping pill. I always needed something to help me get to sleep because I can't seem to "shut my mind off" when it's time to sleep. And once I do fall asleep I tend to wake up after 5 minutes or less and then it's even harder to get back to sleep. That hasn't happened yet using the Dodow. Most of all I hated how groggy I felt every morning when taking the pills(Unisom, in case you wondered). I had gone beyond that recommended dosage of 1 pill and was taking 2 pretty regularly. It would take me at least an hour every morning to feel like I was fully awake. This morning I awoke 5 minutes before the alarm went off!! It's only been 3 nights, but I have high hopes that I'll be able to continue to use the Dodow and not have to resort to Sominex again.

This works for me but maybe not everyone... Read on and see what I mean.
I recommend this product. I have a CPAP and an over active mind. I didn't get the CPAP till a few years back the only reason I bring this up is anyone knows it can be a challenge to sleep with just a CPAP much less an over active mind. I find the the breathing of the light and allowing myself to focus on the light and trying to match the breathing or pulsing of the light just allows me to relax, unfocus, and pass out. Just as the video portrays. Now of course nothing is without it's flaws it takes a little bit to get use too but if you really give it a chance I think it will work on most people since I have owned I think there has been perhaps 2 night I didn't fall asleep before the light went off. Those were just very trying nights in my life recently it can help you unfocus but only so much sometimes your brain will win. Things to know when you turn it on it will last 8 mins if you run your finger over the surface again it will last for 20 mins. I suggest this at first so you can get use to the product. I know some people have complained about the brightness but it is adjustable so just adjust to what works for you and set for 20 mins and give it a real college try before you decide it works for you or not. I love and take it will me everywhere as I travel a lot for work. There is a great travel case on Amazon as well if you want one here is the link.https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B079FH5BN5/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&th=1 It's simple, sturdy, and not too expensive. If you have any other questions just ask away. I really love this product as it has allowed me to get to sleep fast and I'd even wager to say it has improved my sleep as well by allowing me to go to sleep in such a relaxed state.

This thing is pretty much garbage
This thing is kind of dumb. It might work for some people, but definitely not me! And it's HORRIBLY overpriced. I thought it would work well because of the price. Wrong! It's a hunk of plastic with a blue light that fades in and out. Overall, it's a great idea, but WAY off. They claim that they've done tons of research with phycologists/sleep experts, etc., which is how they came up with the timing. IT'S WAY OFF! I'm not sure they even tested it. The inhale part is great, but the exhale part only gives you a split second. Also, there's no way to control it. No settings, nothing. They thought this "ONE", unchangeable setting would be perfect for every human. It is relaxing, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars. But it doesn't work overall. And, I like to wear a sleeping mask as well. (Can't do that with this product) Also, you need like "the perfect" spot to put this. (You'd think your nightstand would be great, but it's not.) If you do that, the light ends up partially on the ceiling, and mostly on the vertical wall behind you. Overall, lame. Needs improvements, extra features, programable settings, and a much lower price point. Thanks for reading.

Did absolutely nothing for my sleep. Returned item.
The device was clean, well packaged, and well marketed...it just didn't do anything at all for my sleep. Firest the dimming and brightening of the LED's seems out of sync with normal breathing because their should be some brief pause between inhaling and exhaling. Secondly, the design of the device shines the LED on the ceiling...meaning that you need to lay on your back to see it. I sleep on my side sop forcing myself into a back sleeping position to see the light was actually preventing me from going to sleep. Third, before returning the device, I tried adapting it to sleeping on my side by shining it on the wall. This wasn't working because the device is round and just rolls out of position. Additionally, I didn't really like that there is no reset to turn the device off. On one occasion, I got a call after triggering the device, but once you start the timer, the only option that I saw to start over was to wait for it to go off by itself. The positive thing I can say is that the refund was prompt.

This actually works!
I first saw this little device several months ago. I thought it could be useful for me as I often wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep for hours. Well, after two nights in a row of not being able to get back to sleep, I broke down and bought this. I figured I could return it if it didn't work. Well... it works. I have now used it several times both in the middle of the night when I can't get back to sleep and also when I'm falling asleep initially. Every time, I was asleep by the end of the 8 minutes. It's a very simple concept and I like this a lot because I like to meditate in general when I'm having trouble falling asleep. But just trying to meditate on my own doesn't always work. This little light is a really nice guide to keep me centered and focused. I also like how it starts out with a more rapid breathing pattern and then slows you down so you relax. I don't know, it's so simple but for me it really works! If you are open to the concept of meditating to help you sleep then this is fantastic! You can dim or brighten the light and it has never bothered my husband, who is always asleep when I use this. I used it once when my son had crawled into bed with us in the middle of the night and it didn't bother him when he was sleeping either. I don't have to use this every night but it is wonderful when I do use it. It's terrible to lie in bed for hours, exhausted but unable to fall asleep because your mind keeps wandering... This is the answer!
