The book is actually easy to read and the first part is all about getting your brain to more of an alpha state with really easy to use exercises, such as counting back from 100 very slowly while gazing your eyes 20 degrees up from rest (laying flat on your back)... this is done for ten days, then the counting is reduced as your brain becomes more comfortable in the Alpha state - for some this comes faster than others. The author recommends reading the entire book first - this can be done in a weekend - then going back to the beginning to do the exercises. I'm simply starting the countdown now as the first couple of times I went back to sleep in the morning trying to count down backwards very slowly from 100.... the book even mentions this might happen and to continue to practice. I'm also continuing to read the book. The next chapters take you a bit further into dynamic meditation. My take on this is that all the other books, like The Secret, and the teachings of speakers, such as "not your guru" Tony Robbins, must have started with some of the teachings from this book. I say this, because the book by Jose Silva goes into visualizing what you want ( and even visualizing where you last had an object in order to find where you lost it). It's a lot like intentional manifestation with better exercises and examples that most of us can relate to (not over the top). I'm continuing to read the book and have also glanced at the workbook (waiting to review it until it's completely finished - but basically it is just the crib notes for the book - and not really needed). My humble opinion is it is better to just buy the book and order the workbook only if you find the Jose Silva book hard to read. *** Update on this review is I returned the workbook! The book is predicated on a 40 + hour course that was taught by Jose silva, and there are references to the course in the book. Honestly, if you have ever meditated or read other books on mind control - this will be very easy for you to follow. It's like going to the source of knowledge that so many other teachers seemed to have learned and "borrowed" from. The examples in this book are really good, and that alone makes it much better than the workbooks. I'd recommend this to anyone who is having issues with unproductive thinking, lack of focus, or feeling overwhelmed by how much needs to get done - the many exercises in this book are easy to follow and a good reminder of some of the things I already have learned and mind opening to new things I have not yet learned. This is one of those books you will open time and time again - so worth it to buy your own copy and annotate it as you see fit. My only regret is that I didn't read this book first before reading so many others - but so often, "when the student it ready, the teacher appears". I really needed this book at this certain time in my life and wholeheartedly recommend it as an aid to having greater focus (and therefore control) over what you want and need in your life. Review: Control your mind. - Nice book actually!! Self control!

A good read worth reading
A good read. I've been practicing the meditation method for about 4 months now. Also listen to the Silva recordings on YouTube (shortened versions of the book). Worth reading.

Great for mind reset on thinking patterns
Gift for my college athlete scholarship nephew who was struggling after a family member passed. I told him to just open the first couple pages and look at all the famous people athletes it helped. He got his mindset back on track and has been preforming well ever since! He keeps it out just for the front cover to keep reminding him. I’m surprised he really did read the whole book!!

Does this guy know what he is talking about?
I am referring to the co-author, not Jose Silva in giving this book not a stellar rating. In the introduction, the co-author says that what Jose Silva developed, the Silva Method is “quintessentially American“, but why does he say this? My understanding is that Jose Silva is Mexican, and grew up in Mexico. I took the Silva method course decades ago, the first level with a great guy named Bob in Seattle, and then graduated the Silva Ultra Course later with Jose Silva himself teaching. One of the favorite stories is that Jose, using his method, got his brother to imagine and invent a vending machine coin system for Mexican coins, because of their shape and size they had a hard time doing that kind of thing. The patent on that device funded the family and a lot of what Jose did, so goes the story. I am just starting this book as a refresher course, but does this co-author really know what he is talking about or is he just regurgitating stuff from another book? I have had several patents awarded to me, and partly I base this on my use of the Silva method, or something like it. And I credit José Silva for some of this. What Jose did is take mystical, spiritual things, and translate it to a more practical level, so a regular person, or even a businessman or business woman, can use it in their regular every day lives. And for the most part, he is spot on. So I am not criticizing the book content from Jose Silva. The three stars is for what I see so far from the co-author. I would say buy this book and try to overlook such things, but if you haven’t had the course before, how would you know the difference?
