Learn Chess the Right Way: Book 2: Winning Material Review: FYI It's better to buy these books new rather than used - I ordered Book 1 new and decided to get Book 2 used. The seller said the condition was "Good" and if you just gave a quick once-over to the book, it would seem like it was in "Good" condition. So I'm not criticizing the seller that much. But these books are workbooks where you're supposed to study many sample games and decide what the best next move should be. They're not books to just read. And in my used copy the previous owner had written their answers in pen on 25 of the pages. And some other pages had the solutions written in pencil. So I erased the pencil ones and then marked over the pen answers, thinking I was OK with that. But now I'm thinking I will just donate the used Book 2 and reorder it as a new copy. These books are not meant for just reading - they're workbooks meant to be written in and if you buy it used, you have no way of knowing if the previous owner wrote their answers in pen or pencil. So my advice is to buy these new rather than used unless you're willing to take that chance. I do like the books so far. Review: Helped my son gain confidence to play in a tournament - These books are so helpful to new and emerging chess players. Easy to read and apply lessons with helpful graphics. Reading this book helped my 4th grader feel confident enough to enter his first chess tournament.

Very good introduction to tactics.
This book does a good job in introducing tactics at a very focused and simpler level. Yet emphasizes chess vision and small levels of combinations as well. Or also shows that small changes in the position (sibling positions) can require a different solution.

Excellent tactics course for U1200 USCF
I posted this product review on the Chessable edition 5 months ago. Excellent book, very systematic. The puzzles were well chosen. The target audience is mostly players under 1200 USCF level, although stronger players could use it for speed-training. I used this book for speed training (timer - 10s/move) and scored approximately 90-95%, missing 40 puzzles. This goes to show that even 2000+ players often don't have all the basics completely on autopilot, books like these can help remedy that. 5/5 stars, highly recommended.

PAGES ARE MISSING
I read a review of this kindle book on Amazon that said pages were missing. I thought once Amazon learned of this problem they would fix it. WRONG.I bought this and returned it immediately. No sooner did I start the first chapter when multiple pages were missing

DISAPPOINTED + +++ Kindle version
Imagine starting a book and just getting into it and you find Pages missing. Really - Does Anyone EVER review their work or take RESPONSIBILITY for it ????? As I change pages I find a sentence just stop in mid air. pages mis - numbered. And as I scroll back and forward from one page back or forward the page number of that page changes, ie; first its 60, then its 65, and the third time the same page becomes 63. ( WTH). Amazon is Very desperate to get one to purchase Kindle books - yet the quality is Very Poor. Information is missing. Your current sentence reads “ Once you do this you get a ———.” You get a what ? A pony, an Apple pie, a submarine - your guess is as good as mine. This is supposed to be a chess instruction book reading it is like Math class where the teacher say’s “If you multiply 7 x . You get ... for your answer!” Oh yeah I can SEE that. REALLY ?? I see many many reviews of books on Amazon where the reviewer says AVOID Kindle for this very same reason. And I do. Unfortunately this Touted book by a World renowned Expert does not have many reviews. So here it is “Beware the Kindle Version” Perhaps this Kindle thing is brand new OR NOT. Same problem on my iPad, iPad mini,and my IPad Pro. There it is - any Honest and Serious review. Question is -“do I get my non Counterfeit money back?” We shall see

I love the series but the kindle version could be improved. There could be page indents before the puzzle number, it is quite annoying to go to the previous page to see the solution for a puzzle. Could you fix that and update? This was not an issue in the first book of the series.

What I LIKE about it: 1) TARGETED FOR BEGINNERS — Learn Chess the Right Way: Book 2: Winning Material is perfect for young players and beginners who are looking to improve their tactical skills. It’s designed to build confidence by focusing on one core concept: gaining material advantage. 2) CLEAR EXPLANATIONS — The book explains the importance of “winning material” in simple, easy-to-understand language, making it ideal for kids and those new to chess. 3) PROGRESSIVE DIFFICULTY — The exercises are well-structured, starting with simpler problems and gradually introducing more challenging scenarios. This helps learners build their skills step-by-step without feeling overwhelmed. 4) ENGAGING FORMAT — The puzzles are fun and varied, with diagrams that are clear and easy to follow. It keeps players engaged while reinforcing key tactical patterns. 5) ENCOURAGES STRATEGIC THINKING — Beyond just solving puzzles, the book teaches players to think critically about their moves and understand the consequences, laying a strong foundation for future success in chess. DISLIKE: The book focuses primarily on tactics and doesn’t delve deeply into broader strategic concepts, but it’s understandable given the targeted scope of this series. I hope you found this review HELPFUL. Makes reviewing worthwhile. Thanks!
