Computer Science Illuminated, 5th Edition

This is a great introduction to general computer topics. Some topics are covered hastily and without enough depth, but that is a concession you have to make when trying to introduce so many topics in a concise manner. This book is only an introduction. Don't buy it expecting to glean deep and intuitive information from its pages. It's an amazing introduction for those inexperienced with computer science topics. Use it to orient what you wish to learn.

Enjoyed the book. Good quality. Really teaches you computer science from the ground-up. Anybody interested in computer science who would like a more foundational approach will enjoy this textbook.

Even though this is a college book, it is at a level that is good for anyone interested in learning more about one of the most important aspects of modern life: computing systems and networking. I was impressed that the questions were not unreasonably difficult or unclear. The broad base of topics covered by the book is really admirable. Anyone who wants to learn more about computers and their modern applications should buy this book.

The seller delivered the book on time and in perfect condition. I recommend using this seller. As for the book itself, it is written for the beginner who lacks prior knowledge of computer science. This textbook is a required reading for my class. Throughout the book, pioneers of this field are discussed. While the authors capture the major founders, some critical contributors are not mentioned, disappointingly. A suggestion to the authors of this book: the discussion on historical figures in computer science could use further updating.

The book gives an in-depth and detailed look into the world of computer science.Key terms and acronyms are placed besides each section in a chapter.Some complex matrices and concepts are color coded for easy understanding. The questions at the end of each chapter clarify the key points of each chapter.Plus this text book is also used in our school for introduction to computer science.

This was a recommended book for my Computer Science class, and I always like getting my books for class so I shopped around and found the great deal to rent it on amazon, I did not read chapter by chapter for what we were working on in class but when it was time for the test it was great to look up information to get a little more detail on the topic that the slides my professor had did not really explain well. if its a recommended book for your class I suggest renting it from amazon it only cost me $27 for the whole spring semester while the school I go to wanted over $100!

I would recommend this book to all beginners in computer science, or even those with informal experience. It breaks down the discipline into various layers, ranging from explanations of number systems to the technicalities of the internet. I think it does a great job of laying down the overall foundation. Likewise, it's a fairly quick and easy read for a text book.

Book in great condition -- no highlighting or writing on the pages. Also, this edition is the same as the newest edition and I never noticed a difference for first-year computer science

This book is to support A level Computer Science and it is very informative. The book quality is very good, almost as new, and really quick delivery.

I got my book ( a bring new book) within 24 hours. I will definitely order more textbooks.Even with shipping included , it was much less than what I would have paid in a University bookstore.

It's in very good condition - even the code for online access to additional material is untouched! I don't like some chapters, but that's irrelevant...

Bought this book as an xmas pressie for my son who is going to university , he has found it very concise and interesting.
