My order for this coffee pot just came --it was made in china, not germany. why made in china? advertisement indicated germany.

I also assumed the coffee pot was made in Germany. I have no answer other than “cheaper” to make in China but this is indeed disappointing from a respected German brand. The pot does perform well.

Does anyone know how to not get that plastic smell and taste when making coffee with this machine?

I small really bad chemical smell even after deep clean with white vinegar. My coffee taste really bad. It is made in China. My bathroom toothbrush cup was made in China, the chemical or plastic smell is so strong, it just became a decorative item since it looks good. It would probably poison me using it. I wish I read some of reviews before buying. My current old Krups was great, the bottom burner got too old & pilling off. We need made in USA or Germany.

Does the pour spout dribble annoyingly like the garbage Cuisinart I have?

I have tested this carafe many times. If you are making more than 3 1/2 cups, you will have spillage. It is impossible to pour a cup of coffee from this carafe if there is more than 4 cups in it. We make a FULL pot and for the first couple of cups it has to be poured over the sink. It is a great coffee maker for those that only make 3 cups or so at a time.

how hot is coffee when first brewed?

My unit the coffee is bold, flavorful,, and hot when first brewed. It is HOT at first, but maybe cools down a little quicker than I would like. It is not scalding, if that is what you prefer.
