I like this holder better than the dremel one. It is metal and should hold up better and work more accurately than the plastic one. It holds my corded rotary tool from harbor freight. The drill press action is smooth enough and I am satisfied with it. Price was good too.

fits the dremel (not included with the press), i have used it and it functions just like my shop drill press does, only at a much smaller scale. its not meant to be used for very tough or hard jobs. it is clearly a hobby drill press and yes, it fulfils the role just fine. i use it for different types of model, plastic, wood, paper. works just fine be careful when using very fine drill bits, there is a "little" play in the mount of the dremel, a slight wabble, but very fine and did not ruin the parts i used it on. i used it quite a bit too. i recommend it for hobbies only and remember the golden rule.. patients and safety is key when using any type of machinery, no matter what the size is of the machine

The Milescraft Rotary Tool Stand is a useful accessory for your rotary tools. It can be used for such things as a drill press or to just hold your rotary tool allowing you to better hold the part you are working with (like having a third hand). However, I need to point out that this stand is not designed to do precession work with your rotary tool. If you are looking for something small to do any drilling that requires a tight tolerance, you maybe better off looking at looking one of the many small table top drill presses available that don't cost too much more. Assembly and disassembly (for easy storage) is fast and easy. The instructions that come with it are easy to follow too. The base is die cast aluminum and lightweight measuring about 7" x 10" with a work area of 6" x 6". A heaver cast iron base would have been nice to make the unit more stable. However for small light work the stand is stable and it also comes with three #8 screws and rubber feet to allow you to screw the base to your work bench to improve stability. The vertical support column is a lightweight tube that presses into the base and is held secure with a single bolt at the back of the base. The over all height of the stand is about 15", including the base. The "tool holder bracket" can easily be adjusted anywhere up or down the vertical tube which gives you about 12" of adjustment vertically. A heaver threaded vertical support column would have been nice feature to help improve stability. But the press fit of the tube into the base are a nice tight fit. This stand is design to be used as a drill press when your rotary tool mounted in the vertical position, but as I pointed out earlier, it is not for precession drilling. The tool holder bracket is designed to allow approximately 2-1/2" of travel when used as a drill press. However the tool holder bracket can be adjusted anywhere along the vertical column for short or taller jobs. There is also an adjustable depth gage with a depth stop collar to control the depth of your drill which is nice if you need to repeat your drill depth. I did find a slight play in the "tool holder bracket" while using it as a drill press, but I was able to easily eliminate just about all of the extra play by placing a thin piece of plastic between the "depth shaft" and the lower guides. Pros: Lightweight Easy to assemble and disassemble for easy storage Holds rotary tool vertically or horizontally for ease of working Can be used as a mini drill press Can be easily fastened (screwed) to your work bench for added stability Cons: Lightweight base and vertical column makes the stand not stable as it could be if not fastened down. Loose fitting design when used as a drill press allowed extra play (not for precession work)

Instructions were a little hard to read but the thing is easy enough to put together. It works great with my knockoff dremel, a "Chicago" rotary tool i got at a local hardware store, you just have to find the right piece to remove from the end of the tool so it can screw into the stand. Once I tightened all the nuts and bolts on the stand everything works really well. It's accurate and stable enough for almost any job. It's a little creaky and springy and noisy but for the price is a great stand. No need to waste money on something with the Dremel name on it. It works sitting on the desk or screwed into a workbench. Plenty stable enough either way for small projects, which is what the rotary tool is designed for.

Parts The product I received was slightly different than the box and marketing photos. Apparently there has been some revision from the manufacturer. 1) The base is a dull die-cast metal rather than the shiny Aluminum in the pictures. 2) The upper bracket to affix the tool has been deleted. The change in the base is not too big a deal for me, but it might make it more likely to scratch items than the smoother aluminum. For this I deduct a ½ star. As for point #2, I was initially concerned that having only one point of attachment would be unstable, but it turns out to be secure enough. One could add tape or Velcro if needed. Assembly There are really only three components here: A base, neck and press unit. You only need to attach the neck to the base and mount the press to the bar. However, on the one I received, there were no threads on the base where the screw goes in to secure the neck. In the instruction manual (barely visible pictures that look like 100th generation copies) it indicates that you should start the thread by pushing the screw and turning manually then use a long neck wrench to finish. Let me advise you that it is absolutely necessary to use a long neck wrench for maximum leverage. I literally had to use my entire body weight to turn it. I am afraid that anyone with some infirmity will be unable to assemble this properly. This is completely unacceptable and I deduct 2 more stars. A perusal of other reviews indicates that not all of the units were missing the base threads. Usage So, how does it perform? Out of the box it is certainly better than drilling by hand. However, as has been said in other reviews, there is a bit more play in the press mechanism that can cause drilling to be off by a few millimeters. This also increases the chance of breakage with the finer drill bits, which, I presume, most people who buy this will be using. One can do a "McGyver" and affix a piece of plastic with double sided tape to the point where the depth gauge slides eliminating the gap that causes the imprecision. Verdict If one can assemble it (difficult should you get a base without the screw threads) and make the minor modification (simple) it is a nice enough tool. Compact and light at a reasonable price point for which I add back a 1/2 star.

This machine suits me very well. I was worried if it would fit my Mastercraft rotary tool, it does! The only negative that surprised me was the mismatch of the hole for the mounting bolt on the base. I had to expand it a bit. But this is sheer nonsense compared to the opportunities that open up with its presence. This is a very decent quality and very inexpensive tool that turns your rotary tool into several tooling machines. Highly recommend to all home craft lovers.
