Small Moss Pole for Monstera - Stackable & Refillable Plastic Moss Poles for Climbing Plants with Large Mesh Design (4Pack-White-Small)

I grow mostly Pothos and Monstera plants. I start training my plants to small moss poles like this one from Hyyz as soon as they are tall/long enough to start attaching string to hitch them to a pole. I make most of my own poles from hardware cloth but small poles like this Hyyz are way too much of a pain in the posterior to make. For plants like my young Cebu Blue Pothos or Monstera Adansonii this is a great starter pole. It fits well in my 6 inch pots and this size pot can easily handle two stacked sections without becoming too top heavy. The pole is rather stiff and isn’t the most beautiful thing in the world. But it’s just a temporary thing for me until my plants are ready to pot up. I’ve read all the other reviews on this product and want to share some things I’ve learned along the way that might help others when using this or any other brand of “micro” moss pole. I use Better-Gro orchid moss in all my moss poles. It’s consistent and very clean. I’ve never had to pick out an excessive amount of sticks, grasses or other trash from it. To be completely safe I open a package of the moss into a 5 gallon bucket and add boiling water before I pick through anything. I put the lid on the bucket and come back about 30 minutes later to gently stir things a bit to make sure everything is good and soaked. The lid goes back on for another hour. I do this to make sure that anything and everything, such as gnat or grub worm eggs, are destroyed by the hot water. In the case of this pole the long fibers of this moss hold together better when filling the pole. One of the things I’m not overly keen on with this pole is how close the stakes are to each other. It limits how high I can stack the pole and how much weight it can handle and still be stable in the soil. But that goes with the territory when using this small of a diameter pole. When my moss is ready I fill the pole and leave about an inch of space at the top. I attach my vines and voila my green babies are good to go. This pole does dry out fast and there really isn’t much space for aerial roots to develop with such a small diameter pole. With my Monstera Adansonii I wrap the outside of the pole with a generous layer of moss and twine after filling the inside. Keeping this moss pole moist can be a bit of a challenge. But I have an easy way to handle that. I take an empty 16.9oz plastic soda bottle and drill several holes in the lid with a 7/64” drill bit. I fill the bottle with water and screw the cap on. That inch of space I left in the top of the pole that I spoke of earlier is part of my easy watering solution. I turn the bottle upside down and put it in the top of the pole to slow drip the water into the moss. Here’s the kicker and the most important thing when watering like this. The lid of the bottle must touch the moss. If it does not touch it the water will stay in the bottle. By the lid touching the moss it breaks the surface tension of the water and gravity does the rest. When I do this I usually take the tray off of the bottom of the pot so excess water can just drain into my kitchen sink as it passes through the moss and filters down through my potting medium. Much easier than trying to mist the pole and certainly easier(and less tedious) than trying to slow feed water down the moss manually. These things make using these poles by Hyyz easy for me. These poles do have some limitations but they work for my purposes. They’re inexpensive, they don’t rust and they’re reusable for eons. I sell plants from my props to help with being on a fixed retiree’s income so my plants are very important to me. This pole makes my job and the passion for my plants much more enjoyable. It’s a great product for my needs.

These are really nice poles. Really sturdy and good quality. When you attach two together stop make a longer one, there are holes on the end so if you’re watering the moss from the top, the water will trickle down to wet the moss in the bottom pole. I appreciated that. My only problem, which is actually pretty significant, is that the two sticks you’re supposed to use to anchor it in your pot and just not long enough to hold it. And a few times they’ve come unattached and so the pole fell over and it ripped my pot. I think if the designer who made these could fashion a system that would really hold the poles upright and in place, it would be amazing.

Easy to assemble. Looks a lot cleaner and more uniform than regular moss poles. Would purchase again.

I'm not sure about others but I put sphagnum moss in mine and it dries out almost overnight, so no real benefit to my monsteras.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I was genuinely impressed by this product. Right out of the box, you can tell it’s made with quality materials, solid construction, no cheap parts, and attention to detail throughout. It feels durable and performs just as well (if not better) than some higher-end brands I’ve used in the past. What really makes this a standout, though, is the price. For what you’re getting, it’s an incredible value. I was expecting something decent for the cost, but this far exceeded my expectations. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and it does it well. If you’re on the fence, go for it: this is one of those rare finds that delivers both quality and affordability.

My pot is a little too short for the spiked things at the bottom. Or are the spiked things at the bottom too long/tall? Otherwise perfect and would purchase again.
