Patterns of Fashion 2: Englishwomen's Dresses and Their Construction C.1860-1940 [Arnold, Janet] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Patterns of Fashion 2: Englishwomen's Dresses and Their Construction C.1860-1940 Review: Great Research Book for Those Interested in Making Period Clothing - I have the others in this series (the ones with earlier period clothing) and this is just as wonderful. Great illustrations and drawings make construction details clear even without reading the text, but this is NOT a book for someone looking to peruse some pretty dresses from earlier eras. Review: doesn't get much better than this - It's Patterns of Fashion; doesn't get much better than this. No detailed construction tips, but this is in the period where dressmaking guides were widely published (and accessible open source online now). Some of the later-date dress patterns are quite dense on the page, but that's more due to the complexity of the patterns than any fault of the author. I would also say the dresses here are a bit more "specific" in taste than those in PoF1, which seem to be more representative of their periods. However, it's easy to adapt a bodice or skirt pattern to your specific taste, and this book contains many of those. I also personally like the period pattern and cutting guides in the front. Lifted directly from period magazines and patterns, these double the number of patterns and styles you get with the book, if you are willing to scale them yourself.

Shop's go to book
I have always loved historical fashion and after the first time using this and Janet Arnold's other books while working in a costume shop I had to get my own copies of them. The patterns are wonderfully drafted and scaling them up is a breeze. Yes, there are alterations that had to be made to some of them size-wise, but nothing worth sweating about. My books have seen lots of use though I still haven't managed to make anything for myself. The details that are provided with sketches and the patterns are wonderful for anyone looking to reproduce any of the garments. That being said, they aren't the best representation of the time period nor of the different classes, but it is still an amazing series of books.

Very happy overall.
I am very happy with this purchase. The book has clear wear but I expected that as a used book and it doesn't affect the contents. The seller paid for priority shipping as the book was a vulnerable size and shape. Overall I am very pleased with the product and service and look forward to using it for some sewing projects!

I recommend Arnold's book to all who have a dedication for accuracy in historic clothing.
Thank you, the book is *very helpful to my work. I appreciate each part of it- the students -very helpful and the provenance of each garment -wonderfully helpful. And the shipping time was very fast.

Perfetto! Come descritto, arrivato prima del tempo. Fondamentalmente per chi come me realizza abiti d'epoca!
