Review: Good range of exercise - Useful workout book Review: Great book for me at 45! - Great book to start me on my strength training journey. I’m 45 and previously tried gyms and work out sessions and to be honest, I never really got on with either. I wanted something that would help me start slow and take things at my own pace so this was great. Would add and extra star if you had examples of fitting in with someone who likes cardio as you seem to be a little anti-cardio in it.

How to build and maintain a strong, healthy body.
This book tells you everything you need to know about strength training (including fitness, health and nutrition) and then tells you how to do it. It is easy to read and refer back to. I find the key takeaways at the end of each chapter particularly useful. Michael has a no nonsense, sensible approach, without gimmicks. There is a basic routine to follow to include all muscle groups. You can adapt it to your own ability by using the easier or more challenging alternatives and changing the weight, number of reps and sets. The exercises are clearly explained and illustrated, including what to do and what not to do. I have been using the exercise routine for four weeks and now know it by heart. I am not new to exercise, but I am a 66 year old female, who was beginning to feel flabby and lazy. I am already feeling stronger, have more vitality and am sleeping better. I am also maintaining my enthusiasm because the routine is simple and does not take up a large chunk of my day. Thank you Michael from one very satisfied customer.

11.5 Pages of actual workout
I'm a bit disappointed. Only Chapter 6 11.5 pages, are about the actual workout, rest of the book is a bout motivation, diet etc. Total book has 195 pages, so less than 10% is about the actual workout plan :-(

If this book doesn't get you off the couch, nothing will
'Did you know, once you get past 40, you may lose 1lb of muscle for every passing year?' With an opening line like that, you know this is going to be a book that doesn't just give you guidance on how to look after your body, but why you should. As you read on, it's like having your own personal trainer at your side, dropping these little motivators in front of you – 'As little as 30 minutes of proper strength training exercise a couple of times a week for about 2-3 months can reverse as much as 10-30 years of decline in strength and function.' The book follows a logical structure that starts with the importance of exercise and making sure it's the right kind of exercise... to the six best compound exercises for over 40s and the ultimate workout plan to put things into practice... the importance of recovery, managing your nutrition and how to stay on track and reach your goals. This is a book packed with solid research, that covers all the bases in a no-nonsense, easy-to read style.

If you are over 40 and looking to get into strength training for the first time. Then this is a good book to start with. Each chapter is well presented and contains no unnecessary waffle, personal anecdotes or anything of such nature. The information presented is direct and to the point with clear reasoning behind it's inclusion. I especially liked the chapters on mastering various exercises (chapter 4) and creating a workout routine suitable for the over 40's, (chapter 6). There could have been more exercises included in this book and some greater detailing into creating a comprehensive workout plan from scratch would have been nice, but there are other, better books for that. Overall, I have found this book to provide a good level of information aimed squarely at those entering or returning to strength training.

Easy read. I bought the book in 2022 and put it aside. I read it from cover to cover today. Basic and clear. Great advice. I am looking forward to using the tools in this book.

Fairly basic. I imagine it would be good for those new to this type of exercise

Very basis information included. Nothing what the title suggests. Total waste of money. DO NOT BUY.
