This thing is just so great
This is an excellent product, as long as you realize that the phrase "hatchet" means different things in Japan versus the United States. This is a very heavy blade, much more so than any kitchen tool, but light enough to be a small outdoor blade and sharp enough to be a versatile tool. Plus it just looks so great.

Functions more like a knife
The finish of this tool is exceptional. Mirror finish to the blade and an attractive wooden handle. The scabbard is clever in design. However, this feels more like a knife than a hatchet. Sharp, yes, but is quite light. Also, not a full tang, the blade only extends two or three inches into the handle. May make a good utility knife, but not a hatchet.

Beautiful stainless steel blade, nicely put together. Almost makes you not want to use it for batoning or hacking branches. It is half tang, like most Japanese blades, with two rivets in the handle. The handle is wood and fairly well fitted together. The rivets are firm, but could have been set just a tad better.
