Samurai Jack: The Complete Series Box Set (BD) [Blu-ray]

Samurai Jack is as good as any cartoon gets. It is a complete anomaly amongst other cartoons of the early 00s, but really it’s quite unique for any era. There is a slow, meditative quality to this show that lends every scene additional weight and the art style is really quite beautiful throughout. The item arrived exactly when it was supposed to and the DVDs are in a decent case (not those horrible thin things they often give you now.)

An awesome show, an awesome series makes this an awesome collection. I was a bit late to the Samurai Jack series, but once I watched one episode I was hooked and never looked back. I have been waiting for the final season for year and I have to say it is worth the wait. Having the whole series in this collection is just the extra strawberry on top. Apart from having all the episodes I also get all the extras like interviews, storyboards and behind scenes stuff. This is worth every penny for me.

I never fully appreciated Samurai Jack as a kid since I was too young to understand… but buy this show after season 5 was the best idea to do so! Seeing all of its glory, battles and meanings, the adventures of Jack against the forces of evil, finding his way back to the past to defeat Master of all Masters: Aku! The many foes, the friends he’s made and of course, the final series really putting him through the test, finding his way back, not just to the past… but the path-of a Samurai.

Ok lets set aside the price of this set. If you are a fan you will make allowances for it. The brass tax is all 5 seasons are here in a surprisingly slim case that comes with a glossy sleeve. This is the Region B UK edition, comes with English subs which when it comes to manga/animation is a rarity. Seasons 1-4 are aspect ratio 4x3 while the latest season5 is 16x9 Anamorphic. The show looks great, I've started from Season 1 and can safely say the transfer is well worth the upgrade from DVD. The Blu-ray version looks cleaner and colours pop out more. Definitely an improvement, the DVD version looks more muted and fuzzy. Detail is clear and crisp and watching it all on a widescreen TV is where it all comes together and is where all the price of this goes to. Plenty of special features also (see pics). Only real negative is that it is pricey, maybe the most I've paid so far for an animation set. But as a huge fan of the show I couldn't pass up having it all collected together in HD and the slim case make it a shelf space saver in a ever growing collection loaded with large box sets.

Anyone looking to buy this knows what they’re getting: One of the best animated shows created! I just wanted to write a review to say at this time or typing this, the release has the official UK packaging, and not the european one. It still has the whole series in one case and it looks great. Been having a blast going through these episodes again, and it has some extra features, like behind the scenes and certain episodes have commentary. Definitely a great collection to own for all Samurai Jack fans!

Samurai Jack was a childhood favorite and inspiration! Glad I found these as couldn’t find it in stores or online to watch anywhere and was worried Jack’s epic tale would be lost forever. “Jack jump good!”

The complete series of samurai Jack has finally been released in region 2 format and although I didn't think much of the dvd case, the DVDs were outstanding and complete in just about every aspect. Some people are more picky than me but it's a quality release all the same if you're a samurai Jack fan or just loved the series.

It is so good to see these again. I was worried my 2003 dvd player wouldn't work with this region disk here in the UK, and was prepared to connect up my laptop to the tv to watch them but happy happy joy joy no problems. I love this show, it is art in motion and a must see if you haven't. Get it before it is gone.

It arrived way faster than expected, however the case is not closing correctly but it's not a disadvantage for me. Also noticed that this European version is different than the USA one. No Individual cases just flip case.

I got this while it was on sale for $60. Without a doubt, especially for that price, this particular box set is worth it. It contains all 5 seasons. The box it comes in is sturdy and each season comes in its own blu ray case with nice artwork. Perhaps the most stand out thing about this is that it also comes with a digital copy of all 5 seasons - essentially doubling its value. I can now have the complete series in a collectible box set, safe in storage, while watching it digitally on Vudu. It’s worked flawlessly and I couldn’t be happier. My only disclaimer to this is that most digital codes at some point expire, so if you’ve been on the fence about purchasing this and the option of also owning this digitally is appealing to you, it might be worth doing so before it’s too late. As for the show itself: Samurai Jack is one of the most creative, subdued yet bombastic when it needs to be, under-the-radar shows I’ve ever seen. Whether you’re a fan of anime or animation in general, this show is a love letter to the genre and to anyone with an appreciation for art, samurai, action, and sci-fi. While keeping an overarching, simple-yet-understandable narrative, most episodes play as independent stories that mostly all come to a respective conclusion by the time the credits roll - each taking you to near limitless locations, locales, styles, etc. The show also does something I’ve rarely ever seen done in any other animation, let alone tv show in general, and that is that it allows for minutes to pass by at times with little going on at all - moments where you watch scenery and listen to the superb audio whether it be the nuanced score or the painstakingly real sound effects (i.e., water dripping, steel on steel, machines whirring, drums beating in the distance, wind and leaves rustling). There’s something to be said about this. It’s not done enough in my opinion and strikes a right balance in the show - it feels right and elevates Samurai Jack far above where it would be if it fell into the trappings all too many other shows do in terms of thinking they constantly need to be swiftly moving along with action and/or dialogue to keep the viewers attention. There’s humor, action, suspense, drama and, at the center of it all, a narrative that anyone with a heart can connect with - a man trying to find his way, attempting to fight evil, to return home, to right the wrongs that have befallen him and his people. I’m half-way through season 4 and I’m so excited to someday watch this again with my son as he gets older - the show is very clean, save for action sequences. Though one more disclaimer is that I’ve heard/read that Season 5 introduces some profane language and blood that the previous seasons did not contain. Keep that in mind! I can’t say enough good things about the show or this box set. I’m so glad I pulled the trigger on it when I did. It looks like the price has went up significantly since, but I’m sure with some patience you could find a new copy elsewhere? Or perhaps Amazon will eventually restock and maybe there will be another sale. Regardless, it’s worth it. Absolutely worth it.

放映時からカートゥンネットワークジャパンで見ておりとても好きな作品でした。 しかし最終シーズンにして完結編のシーズン5が存在すること、それが日本では放映されていないことからこのBlu-rayを購入しました。 シーズン5ではジャックは深刻な危機に直面し、病み、様々な幻覚を見ます。 アクーもまた悪魔なのに疲れている？様子が描かれます。 そこにアクーと人間の間に産まれた娘たちが襲い掛かり凄惨な闘いが描かれますが、残った1人の少女、アシとジャックはお互いに少しづつ変化していきます。 ジャックは弱い面も持ったヒーローですが自分を取り戻していきます。 アクーは本当に悪いやつですが相変わらず憎めない面も持っています。 新キャラクター、スカラムーシュが魅力的で気に入りました。 アシは強いけれど儚く、美しく活躍します。 このシーズンではジャックとアシの表情の巧みさ、その変化が印象的でした。 残酷描写は深刻ではなく、鬼滅の刃、チェンソーマンを見ていれば驚くほどではありません。 世界のサムライジャックファンにおすすめですが、結末を見ていない他の日本のファンにもっとアシやスカラムーシュの魅力を見て欲しいです。 エンディングは、小泉八雲というかラフカディオハーンというか、余韻の残る少し寂しいものでした。 そこが良かったです。
