This is a nice sample set of individually wrapped bagged Vahdam black teas. I bought this for my wife to use and share at a conference (apparently all the tea provided there was Bigelow, Blech) and I’m told it was a big hit. We actually had never had this brand but it was the only all-black tea sampler we could find. I managed to swipe an Assam Exotic and a Spring Darjeeling to try. The Assam really impressed me and was easily one of the best bagged Assams I’ve had. Not sure what makes it more “exotic” than other Assams, but it was full flavored and malty with wonderful flowery notes and hints of molasses, caramel, and dried fruit. Come to think of it, Ive only previously encountered such floral notes in some loose leaf Assams, so it’s clearly good quality tea. The spring Darjeeling was less impressive, though still pleasant. I don’t usually care for bagged Darjeeling so I guess I’m impressed it’s as enjoyable as it is. It was much greener in character than the second flushes I’m used to and lacked any wine or muscat notes. Aroma was light and fruity, as was the taste. Hints of dried fruit, particularly figs, and grass. Nice, but overall a little too subtle. That said, it was good enough that I’d be very curious to sample and experiment with Vahdams loose leaf first flush. I’ve been told the Maharaja (English) Breakfast and Earl Gray were both quite good, but no word on the Summer Darjeeling. Overall, this is a good choice if you need a sample set of all-black teas for any occasion. I do think it would make a good gift for a black tea lover, but note that it just comes in a simple box so the presentation is not particularly impressive. We will be buying it again for the next iteration of her conference and they are good enough that I think I will sample some Vahdam loose leaf teas. ***Edit-*** One thing I’ve learned after further experience with Vahdam bagged teas is that the amount of leaf in these bags is calculated pretty precisely for around 8 oz of water. They can stretch a bit, but you will need to compensate by steeping a minute or two longer than you normally would. This works better for some of the teas, the Assam for example, than others. I often use a mug that holds about 12 oz, but found most Vahdam teas tasted much better in my 8 oz cups. **Further Edit** I’ve since been able to try the remaining teas in another sampler pack. I have to say I was disappointed in the summer Darjeeling. Although it was a little fuller bodied and fruitier than the spring one, it was much more restrained than other second flush Darjeelings I’ve had. It totally lacked any wine or Muscat notes and still seemed to have a rather green character. It wasn’t bad, I just didn’t find it very interesting. Given my reactions to the Darjeelings, I have dropped the rating to 4 stars. I still recommend the product overall, but I continue to believe Darjeeling just does not work well in bags.

Bought for a Christmas gift for a tea enthusiast. She loves the chai-based flavors.

I am quite an avid tea drinker so I have tried a wide range of teas, but I find that Vahdam teas are definitely my favourite. The presentation and packaging of the teas was very elegant which makes it great as a gift. The teas both loose leaf and in tea bags are very flavoursome and I find I can use the tea bags at least twice before the flavour weakens. They have a fresh taste and a great range. I highly recommend this product.
