A worthy replacement to a reliable workhorse
We got this to replace what was an earlier version of the same device - which had served us well for 8 or more years. It had got to that stage where paper handling had finally given up so it was time for a new spin. I was looking for a model which would do double sided printing automatically (i.e. I didn't need to re-insert the paper) and had scanning facilities etc. I nearly went with an ink-tank model (like this one: https://amzn.to/4mfgfY0) since the cost per copy is incredibly cheap. And I still think that would be a good choice if you were doing huge quantities of printing. However, my research suggested that the ink-tank models may not be so good if you are printing less frequently. We are light home users - I work from home so it does get used most weeks - but might occasionally go for a couple of weeks without it. On that basis I decided the cost/risk on an ink tank wasn't worth it. I'd been very happy with the previous Brother so this seemed like a no-brainer. We've been using it for a few weeks and here are my thoughts. Set up - seemed pretty straightforward. Just follow the instructions onscreen/on web. Connecting to our phones was slightly more fiddly than connecting the PC but works fine. Paper handling good - no jams at all yet. I haven't tried the automatic document feeder for scanning yet - but that should be a useful extra feature. Speed - feels faster than the previous model. I haven't timed it - but definitely fast enough for home office use. Print quality - excellent - have printed some photos and the quality is great. Print cost - it came with proper sized cartridges and it looks like there will be enough ink in there for a year or more of our usage. It should accept compatibles and they don't cost the earth. All in all, very pleased. And when I ordered it, Brother were offering some cashback on purchase, which made an already reasonably priced machine excellent value.

Great Printer at a Bargain Price!
Great Printer at a Bargain Price! I recently purchased this printer, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. The setup process was incredibly straightforward—literally took just a few minutes to get everything up and running. The user-friendly instructions made it easy even for someone who isn't particularly tech-savvy. Not only was it easy to set up, but I also scored it at a fantastic bargain price, making it an excellent value for money. The print quality is sharp and clear, whether I'm printing documents or photos. It also handles multiple pages efficiently without any issues. Overall, I highly recommend this printer to anyone looking for an affordable, easy-to-use device that delivers reliable performance. It’s a great deal and a smart choice for home or small office use!

Feels a bit dated
First impressions after installing, configuring and running tests with a Windows 10 PC and a couple of iOS devices, are that this printer/scanner/copier/fax machine is that it's functional, but a bit dated. The physical machine is a bit rattly, the installation process is a bit of a faff, the InstallShield wizards look dated, fax support is probably redundant in most locales (even the NHS has reportedly stopped using faxes), and annoyingly the WiFi only supports 2.4GHz and not 5GHz. The WiFi band is a problem due to the number of IoT devices that only use 2.4GHz - to avoid conflicts, I configure anything that supports 5GHz to use 5GHz, leaving 2.4GHz clear for the smart central heating devices. Buying a new printer and then finding that it ONLY uses 2.4GHz is disappointing/frustrating. However, it works, and the mobile support and multi-device support is significantly better than that of the Canon printer that I had previously. The Quiet mode is good too.

Like coming out of a toxic relationship
I had an HP printer from hell before getting this one. This printer is like meeting that person who finally makes you feel valued and loved, but now pretend the person also prints your documents lightning fast. Real talk, set up is a tad clunky, but honestly it just works so well it gets going it still gets 5 stars. Unlike my old demon HP, when I click print on my computer, on the computers native print dialog no less, no terrible app like HP, it just prints. What a novel idea, you know what, six stars for this printer. It’s a literal miracle. My son literally loves printing now. We can find fun stuff for him to draw on online and print it and voila it works. This printer is technically a babysitter, so what the hay— seven stars! If my son said he wanted to grow up to work for brother I’d say “Good son, bring joy into this world, like this printer has brought joy into mine.” Yes it’s more expensive than the literal bottom barrel HP printers you can get, but treat yo self! Literally treat yo self to privacy and the knowledge that your printer is just printing and not using some scammy HP app like my old demon printer. Treat yo self to pain free printing. It’s really hard when you’re in a terrible relationship to see the light, but there is a light at the end, it’s the light of this things retro 2” dialogue screen. It has lots of easy options and configurations on it, but you literally never have to bother with them, you can just print. And begin life again.
