Great Book! Definitely Recommend if you are a fan of Demon Slayer. It actually has two separate stories.. One for Giyu, and one for Rengoku.

I will preface this by saying the artist/story is different than the original demon slayer books. While I loved Koyoharu Gotouge artwork (original demon slayer books), I have actually found I enjoy Ryoji Hirano’s artwork slightly more than the original books. Both artist have beautiful artwork, but in this book there is more focus on the eyes and “flow”; truly making for some gorgeous artwork panels. The stories took heavy inspiration from the original set as well. Ryoji Hirano did a great job at ensuring the characters felt the same as they did in the original. The storylines are good and well written as well. Insight is given into how some of the characters became hashira (which was great to see!) and there were introductions to some new demons. I look forward to seeing what else will be done in future volumes. My only “complaint” is that the stories felt slightly rushed at some points, but that is to be expected in a short story format vs the long arcs of the original. It was an enjoyable read regardless and am glad I got it. I suggest this book for any demon slayer fan, particularly if you want some more information on what the hashira were doing while tanjiro and the gang were training and what not. I will say, one benefits from reading the original first as there is subtle mentions that have more meaning when you’ve read the original as well as very light spoilers for the original (such as a character’s feeling or statements made in original). However, I would say this is a good stand alone as well, you may just read a few lines and wonder why they said what they did if you have not read the original.

Returned. Re-ordered if the next one is like this I would not recommend at all. Updated: I guess the first one came from somewhere and someone was lazy and just threw a whatever condition book into the package and sent it. The replacement (second photo) came and it’s in PERFECT condition. Extremely happy! Ryoji Hirano did a fantastic job with the illustrations in the manga. The style of it is crisp and I would highly suggest getting it for the story and illustrations. Amazing manga!

If you're a fan of Demon Slayer, then you're going to like this. Two short stories detailing a run-of-the-mill mission, by Giyu set after the events of the first episode and the story of how Rengoku became the flame Harisha which he earned by facing off against the Lower 2 at the time. Shinobu and Mitsuri also join the two the missions respectively. The action is good, and the stories contain the mixture of action, horror, and comedy that made the series so popular. Biggest complaint would be that the main villains in each story are fairly underdeveloped, it would have been nice to see their origin and why Muzan decided to make them demons (or perhaps one of the Upper ranks decided to do so). Still fans of the series will enjoy these stories providing a little more characterization of the two and what life is like as a member of the corp.
