I had my doubts when I ordered this as I have tried so many items for bug bite relief, BUT it really does work! It does get hot but only for a second. (Certainly not hot enough to burn you) When I vacation in the Caribbean I get bitten and the bites itch like crazy......not anymore! I heard about this product from a fellow vacationer who was kind enough to lend it to me at the resort, I immediately came home and purchased one.

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would!!! It's amazing!!! So a few years ago I ordered this thinking it was one of those gadgets that suck the poison out of the mosquito bites but was somehow electronic. I put it in my bathroom and then just kinda forgot about it until earlier this summer I had a mosquito bite that was really bad so I broke this thing out and was surprised that it wasn't a sucker. And for context, I get eaten alive by mosquitoes every year. If there was 100 people outside with me, no one would get bitten by a single mosquito because they are all covering my entire body. It's horrible and I always look like I have chickenpox because I'm covered everywhere with red bumps. I have a hard time sleeping too because I will be scratching bumps in my sleep and going crazy! But anyway, I thought well it's too late to return it so I might as well see if it will at least help. I read over the instructions and got kinda scared when it said the ceramic plate heats up to roughly 124°. I was like omg it's gonna burn it??? I was tempted to not do it, but it was itching soooo bad!!! At this point I would of agreed to anything if there was a small chance it would help, even if only for a short period of time. So the way it works: there is a small round ceramic disk at the tip of it and you put the ceramic disk over your bump, lining it up as best as possible. One button (left button) is for 3 seconds and the other button (right button) is for 5 seconds. You decide which one you want to try but the instructions say to start off with the 3 seconds first and after waiting 2 minutes you can do another round if need be. You hold the plate against the bump and press (don't hold the button, just press it and release) and it will start heating up. Once it has reached 124° a green light comes on and the timer starts from there. Once it's finished the light will go off and it will beep to let you know it's done and it will start cooling off. Instantly my bite doesn't itch at all!!! There have been a few times that I had to do a second round but it's mostly because I'm allergic to mosquito bites so my bumps swell up really big and sometimes the plate isn't big enough to cover all of it so there might be some itching on the parts that didn't get touched by the plate, but it's not often that I have had to do that because most of the time even if it didn't touch that part, it still did not itch afterwards. It does sting a little from the heat but honestly it feels soooo good when it's itching so bad. It's like the device is reaching inside and scratching it lol. When I was reading the instructions I thought well, anyone can take anything for 3 seconds right? But honestly it feels nice. I am very heat intolerant too... like I'll start sweating in a room that is 70° if that says anything about my heat intolerances. But this is actually soothing for the bump. Most bumps I can hit it for the 3 seconds and it will never itch again at all. A few times I had to hit it again about 12 hours later but it's rare. You can rub the bump and absolutely no itching. It's amazing I'm telling you... I want to buy a bunch of these to give as gifts!!! Oh and added benefit, it has decreased my heal time too. Within a few days it's healed and gone. I don't know what kind of sorcery this gadget is but I never want live in a world without it ever again!!! The only bad thing I can say is it's hard to put the plate on spots that aren't flat. Like the hamstrings behind the knees, or the Achilles tendent. And it can be hard to get certain spots on the outside of the leg so I get someone else to help me when it's a hard to reach place. Also it's doesn't say to do this or to not do it but I press the plate hard into the bump. Like I want it to make the best connection with the skin and really get deep inside the bump. Again, it feels so good when it's been itching so bad. I need like 10 more of these so I can literally have one for my purse, bedroom for if I wake up itchy, and some extra to give out. It really is that amazing!!!

I waited to review this tool until I had an occasion to use it. And I will admit I was super skeptical. I react to mosquito, sand fly, bees, etc more than the usual person - have epi pen for bees. Per my doctor I am unusually reactive to insect bites. I got a bite (NOT a bee sting)... not sure by what - it was on the under side of my wrist. I wish I would have taken before and after shots because it was amazing. First, the pen/tool is unusual. It's something new to use - so after rereading the instructions and trying a few times, I got it done. When applying the tool be prepared it will feel HOT - but it doesn't burn. Now if you used it over and over and over on the same spot without stopping - you might be able to harm yourself. And they do note if you have any conditions that lower your sensitivity to pain or feeling - don't use this tool. Having said all of that - there is a slight learning curve and then you get it. I was surprised at the heat - I guess I wasn't sure what it feel like - but once I knew that was the process and that it didn't really hurt - maybe slightly uncomfortable for a second or two - it was easy. The result is amazing. The redness, swelling and itching that came with it was almost immediately reduced. I did reuse it about 3 times in about 5 minutes for complete relief from the itching. It is the following morning. I can barely see the bite and it is not red or itchy at all. Period. THAT is a miracle for me. I usually itch and swell for days and days. It's just misery. I THINK I may have found something that will make my life a lot more tolerable. Hooray! I am so excited about it. I may purchase one of these for my sister who has the same kind of reactions I do to insect bites. A couple of notes: This tool does NOT prevent or stop you from catching insect born diseases - and it is slightly uncomfortable with the heat - but partly because you don't know what to expect. That is quickly solved with correct use. I recommend just trying it on your skin once to prepare for the sensation. I keep the directions rubberbanded to the tool so that I never forget how to use it - but with summer here and more time on front deck - I'll be using it a lot. Right now, if I could give it 10 stars I would. I am going to try and get a before and after photo to add to my review. Having said that, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new information seem useful.

Ok so it works. I was as skeptical as possible, even after an application or two, but it's pretty clear at this point going into 2 months of ownership and probably 50-60 mosquito bites later that it objectively works. It's not 100% effective but most of the time it is and, when it works, the bites either disappear entirely or at least calm down in appearance and lose the attention grabbing itchiness. I think the key is hitting them hard and fast, right away. Get inside the house, let your spouse judge you as you aggressively pin down every last one of them, and give yourself relief. If you try to get one that's older, your miles may vary. I'm sure there's a reason why that might be, maybe the demon protein has already established itself to our immune system at that point. I'm literally typing this review up after I just got annihilated outside with 20 bites in 25 mins, my ankles and calves were absolutely on fire with itchiness, and now I don't really feel anything. But yes I'll probably clap back at a few of them just to be extra certain that they are dead. But the reason I'm only giving 4 stars is that the heat in this thing is extremely inconsistent. Mine either doesn't heat up enough or it heats up entirely too much and feels like its actually burning me at a temp way above spec. Sometimes it hits in the range that seems appropriate, where it's just a slightly more than mildish satisfying sting, but other times I'm thinking it's going to cause a blister. It's very weird, and inappropriate, for a supposed medical device to be completely unpredictable in terms of the temperature of the device when it makes contact with your skin.
