Unbelievably easy to use, high quality too, and very small
If I could give this product six stars, I would. I've purchased a couple of webcams over the years. All turned out to be just hard enough to use and just low enough quality that they eventually went in a drawer. Then, three weeks ago, before a trip to India and China, I decided to give webcams another try so that I could stay in touch with home. Based on Amazon reviews and previous good experiences with other Logitech products, I purchased a Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks for my laptop and a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 for the home computer. Both cameras are beautifully designed. The notebook version is very small (even smaller than it looks in the picture) and takes up about as much space than my mobile phone in my briefcase. Both units fit onto the monitors very easily (the Notebook version clips on, while the 9000 just sits on top of the monitor with a counterweight in the back). Installation of the software was a breeze -- took just a few minutes and installed without a hitch. The real news for me, though, is the Logitech Vid software. At first, I didn't load the software, because it wasn't on the CD (I had to download it). However, after trying video chat on gmail (which was a bit confusing and kept crashing my computer), I downloaded the Logitech Vid software on both my laptop and my home computer. It's incredibly easy to use. All I had to do was register an email address on each computer, after which call from system to system was as easy as clicking on the picture of the person on the other system. No exaggeration, it was easier than dialing a phone number. For the last two weeks, I used the Logitech Quickcam to call home nightly from both India and China, using the regular internet access from the hotels. The process was incredibly simple -- a few seconds after clicking on the icon for the other computer, I was connected with home. The video quality was excellent, even in very poor lighting conditions, and the autofocus worked very well to keep us both sharp. The audio quality was also very clear; in fact, it was clearer than phone calls back to the States. Given that calls back to the States normally cost $1 to $3 a minute from Asia, I figure I made back the cost of the cameras in a single trip. Since the video calls involved no incremental cost, I was able to talk as long as I wanted. Also, being able to see the family, rather than just hear them, was huge. In a nutshell, I couldn't be more pleased. I promptly bought two more cameras for someone who works for me and also travels a lot internationally. I'll soon be ordering a camera for the grandparents; installation and use was simple enough that I'm confident my 80-something parents will have no problem setting it up and using it. As I mentioned at the outset, I've tried webcams several times before, without success. Maybe they've simply gotten better since the last time I tried, or maybe Logitech finally cracked the code of extreme ease-of-use combined with very high picture and sound quality. In any case, the outcome was a true blessing for me when traveling internationally. I highly, highly recommend this camera to anyone who wants to stay in touch with family and friends who are far away and who wants a solution that's as easy as (or actually easier than) a phone call. I couldn't be more pleased with this product.

Great Little Webcam
This is the perfect webcam for using with a laptop. The image quality is outstanding and works well even in low light. The cord is just long enough to connect up to a USB port without getting in the way and saves space when packed up in the tiny neoprene case that's included. Logitech even thought to include a handy mini velcro strap on the USB cord to keep things organized. There's a small and quite adequate microphone with the camera. The stand that is included with the camera breaks apart into three smaller pieces so it can also easily fit in one's gear bag. I'm a bit concerned it's not quite sturdy enough for constant assembly-and-disassembly. I can see using the stand quite a bit when attending lectures because it isolates the microphone from the sound of keyboard typing. I also own an Quick Cam Ultra Vision on a workstation at work. All in all, I'd say that this tiny webcam gives the huge Ultra Vision a good run for it's money on image quality and features, but is much more convenient for the road warrior. Logitech is obviously taking web cams seriously-- these are the two best webcams I have ever seen. They suddenly make video conferencing, video Skype, and OneNote video notes a must have.

Worst webcam
This is both the worst and unfortunately most expensive webcam I have ever purchased, About a year ago, I bought it for around 70 dollars from Amazon, not the 150 they're charging now. Now let me tell you the consistent problems I have had with this product. Right from the start as I was playing around with the exposure, gain, blur, etc settings I decided to update my driver from the one that installs when you plug in the device. When I did, the blur setting I set became permanent. I could not undo this because the most current driver for the C905 does not have this setting and evidently it does not reset it from the previous driver. So now my camera is slightly blurry all the time no matter how much I uninstall and reinstall the drivers, reboot, etc. No my camera lens isn't dirty. I tried cleaning it, too. That is problem number 1. Problem 2 is worse and has gotten progressively worse over time. I am forced to use their "RightLight" setting which is not terrible but the lighting in my room changes throughout the day so I like changing the exposure and gain. The reason I am forced to is because the exposure setting I set resets itself every couple of minutes. Initially it was once a day but it's increased in frequency. Additionally during the night the RightLight feature makes my camera constantly turn up the exposure and turn down the exposure every. damn. second. Please save your money and research a better webcam and perhaps a better company who doesn't make buggy drivers. I will never EVER be purchasing from Logitech again!

Very Good WebCam
Installation of the software and (3) drivers seemed relatively quick. Image testing is very succinct although the microphone test is also strictly visual. I installed Skype afterwards and the two products interact quite well. Skype permits an audio feedback test of the microphone which showed it appears to work quite well and the sound is very clear and distinct even speaking from a distance. The software includes sophisticated video and audio auto correction capabilities which can be optionally disabled or manually adjusted. There is an undocumented button on the web cam itself (as in the software) which allows you to take "snapshots" automatically creating a jpg image. Both a colleague of mine as well as myself experienced a situation where the software for this product suddenly caused the PC (XP Pro) to reboot without a warning or blue screen. This may have been an interaction with Skype but it was a rare occurrence. Somewhere in the driver is a stop code which shouldn't be there. While stressing the product's software based zoom feature at full zoom and maximum resolution, the image becomes quite poor. Still, under normal use, the image is quite good. Although the product name implies it is for notebook computers, it works well on any type of PC. What probably constrains it to notebooks is the short 3 ft USB cable and a holding stand that comes with the product which is just tall enough (11 1/2" lens height) to clear the open cover when placed directly behind it. Ideally, the clip on the web cam would attach to the cover itself so you do not have to take the stand with you when traveling. Fortunately it attached OK to my notebook but it doesn't appear to be a universal design. There is only a vertical swivel to adjust for the open cover angle. The installation CD contains, in pdf format, the manuals of all the Logitech web cam products. You can browse through them to determine if you bought the right one! The manuals themselves do not contain much useful information.

Great camera, well worth the additional money!
We bought this after reading numerous reviews of all the current web cams. We were hoping to only spend about $40 on a camera as there seemed to be many brand name options out there in that price range. After reading about all the people who had taken back many of the $40 options and the rave reviews on this one we decided to get this camera. It is easy to setup and works great. We did have to download the latest software from Logitech, as the software on the CD would not install on our computer, but that was easy enough. All our family said the image quality was great, so we suggested they get the same camera. Unfortunately no one else purchased the same camera. While the image we see of them is acceptable it looks horrible compared to what they see of us. We even did a side by side comparison when they came to visit, and this camera is well worth the extra $35 if you are buying it on Amazon vs local prices of other cameras like the Microsoft one. About the only thing that bothers me is when I clip it to our laptop I often press the button on top of the camera and it snaps a still shot. Otherwise I am very happy we chose to spend the extra money and get the best camera we could. At least our family can see our daughter perfectly, even if we can't see them as well.

Webcam software/drivers had severe compatibility issues
Pros: -Fantastic picture/video quality -Very small, very portable Cons: -Absolutely horrid compatibility issues -Camera stand is non-adjustable -USB cord is only three feet long First off, the only reason I'm not rating this a two or lower is because I've been meaning to wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows, and already had my necessary files backed up. Soon after installing the drivers and software needed to run the webcam, I was hit with a blue screen. After restarting my system, I failed to get past the log-in screen and attempted to restart in safe mode, and even -that- didn't get me to my desktop. After several hours of frustration I just decided to go ahead and wipe everything and reinstall windows. After a few more hours and driver/system updates, I decided to give the webcam another shot, and it worked much better than the last attempt (though that isn't saying very much, considering it forced me to reinstall everything). Ranting aside, the quality of the actual camera itself (not the software) is fantastic. The videos are smooth, crisp and clear, and the built-in microphone isn't too shabby. The build of the camera is compact, sleek, and is indeed very portable. Overall, I most likely would not have bought this camera had I known it would force me to reinstall windows. I haven't checked to see if anyone else had the same problems I did with the camera, so I'm not entirely sure if it was pure dumb luck or one out of many. Regardless, this can be a real problem if one has not backed up important files on their system and is hit with the same issues, and it definitely wouldn't have been worth my time or money if I hadn't planned on reinstalling beforehand.

Pleasantly Surprised for the Money
I started an online class and finally broke down and bought a webcam. I initially was using it with my older laptop, but have since graduated it to my new desktop computer. This camera works well with both. This camera is designed to clip onto the top of a laptop screen, which is does, and it also clips nicely to a flat screen. It is pretty small in size, which is nice. You have to manually adjust it, unlike some of those other higher end track ball types of webcams. Frankly, I prefer the manual adjustment because it is one less thing to break down on down the road. To complement its small size, it comes with a portable little baggy case and this thing that is suppose to work as a tripod. The tripod thing is not particularly stable, so do not count on it being all that useful because the USB cord makes it really tippy. But with the clip thing on the back of the camera, I have found I don't really need it when I take it on the go. I have been very pleased with the microphone features of this camera. I have taken to to various banquets in large halls where I was the IT guy, and it has recorded both the images and the sounds adequately. It records sounds particularly well. When used in a regular office as a webcam for video conference and for online classes, it is pretty high definition. For this price range, I think this webcam is one of the best in the business, particular if you need one that is easily mobile. The software package it comes with is also pretty nice. Lots of avatars and face tracking animations, etc. For a demonstration of what you can do with the software and a taste of its video quality, I did a brief video here: [...] Overall, I think this is an excellent little webcam that is very versatile, has good definition and audio functions, and comes with a good software package. I have no issue giving it 5 stars. There are other even higher end Hi-Def webcams out there, but I think this one is surprisingly good all around for the money.

Papa's New Favorite Toy...
There's nothing like having a two-year old grandson tell you that he wants to "see" you. That spurred my spouse to ask me to research webcams so that our grandson could see his "Papa." After reading the reviews on Amazon and several other web sites, I decided to purchase the Logitech 720p Webcam C905. At the time I made my purchase, Amazon had the best prices I could find. The camera is tiny and clips easily to our monitor; however, because of the distance from our computer, we must purchase a $20 cable to use the clip-on. We have not yet done so. We prefer the clip to using the 12" stand since there is less likelihood that we will knock the camera down. The picture clarity is excellent and we have experienced no problems with that feature. Sound quality is good. We use the camera with Skype and had no problems with respect to installation and connectivity. I particularly recommend that individuals who are not tech wizards read the first several "most helpful" reviews. These enabled my spouse to quickly install the webcam and avoided frustrating moments. Kudos to Amazon on packaging this product for shipment. The camera comes in a small, plain brown box which provides no clue as to its contents. Since electronics sometimes mysteriously disappear during the delivery process, this plain, brown box packaging provides an additional measure of safety for your purchase. I would not hesitate to recommend this webcam to anyone who asks about it. In my opinion, the Logitech 720p Webcam 905C is a five-star purchase.
