Its def a novelty but its a pretty solid one. I have torture tested it, but i got it assuming its legitimate railroad spike, which...well folks...all steel is not created equal. There's regulations on what can be used on the railroads. So I'll say this. A skilled craftsman did some nice work here. Decent Balance. Decent Blade. Comfortable handle. Great weight to it. For most its something to display or share with their friends. There's def the potential for it to be an actual tool for real work. Whether it be hunting, or ranching, or just legitimate hiking. (as in, not that hold your hand business)...The kind of camping seen in the movie Deliverance... Price was great. I say, if you're looking at it. Go for it. I think there's a very strong chance most folks will be happy.

This knife is legit. I plan on learning to forge soon and have a box of railroad spikes that I use for various welding projects. I wanted to see the finished product so I bought this one and one of a different style from this seller who I should describe as an artist because these are works of art. Lightning fast shipping too, by the way.

bought 4 of them for my friends as christmas gifts they're actually pretty cool and very sturdy had to wipe them down with a paper towel when I first got them because of the protective oil on them but it was simple

I'm not one of those 'knife snobs' who cares only about edge retention, splitting logs, etc. with every knife I touch, you get this type of knife for the entertainment and conversation value and so your buddies can have something to play with when they come over - it's worth every penny of that and what I love it for! Although... it is fully pokey/stabby/cutty capable so don't be fooled by the elegant simplicity of it or let your buddies be inebriated :)
