Review: Okay, I stopped making my pasta dinner to write this review. I LOVE THIS COLANDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Okay, I stopped making my pasta dinner to write this review. That's a big deal. You must buy this colander, it's amazing! If you want a colander that stands up in the sink, will hold 2 pounds of regular spaghetti noodles, easily, and drain very well, and then effortlessly drop out of the clever trap door at the bottom, then what are you waiting for. Oh, and I didn't need my husband's help with draining the pasta, which I have had to all these years. Someone heard me say: "I wish there was a colander that you could stand in the sink so it doesn't touch the drain area, holds enough pasta so you don't need to drain several times, and doesn't drip all over you or spill when you try to put it back into the pan. Oh, and I didn't burn my hands either. This colander is much bigger than it looks. Very, very, satisfied customer! Review: Why didn't I discover this sooner? - Seriously, why hadn't I seen/heard about this sooner? I've been using those heavy, double pasta pots (strainer inside) for years, and I thought they were pretty useful. But once I got this I find them absolutely useless! This colander is amazing! Make the pasta, strain the water, and pour it neatly onto a dish or serving bowl. You can add the sauce before or after. Can also be used with salads or other types of food. And you don't need to use the opening at the bottom if you don't want to.

Would recommend
This is a nice colander. I don't use the release mechanism much (releases pasta from the middle after draining), but it is compact and works as expected.

and the handy trap door is fantastic. I just have to be careful not to ...
Where has this been all my life? I've often struggled with dumping pasta from the colander back to the pot with a ton of steam blocking my view. This handy gadget is big enough for more than 2 pounds of pasta, the feet at the bottom keep it off the sink basin, and the handy trap door is fantastic. I just have to be careful not to break the bands on the bottom. Other than that, money well spent as I waited for the price to go down.

Bulky, gimmicky
I bought this because of a lightning sale and now regret it. Honestly the trap door is more of a gimmick, and this colander is huge enough to be a laundry basket. I suppose if you need to prepare pasta for 15 people you might need something this size, but the inconvenience of losing cabinet space for storage, and drainer space after washing, has more than made up for the nice squeeze-trap door. Other (ahem, compensated) reviews might highlight the quality of the plastic, but it's nothing special - exact same quality you'd get from any plastic colander bought at a local discount store.

Exactly What I Have Been Looking For
We have been searching for a colander like this in stores for months. Was so happy to find here on Amazon! It is very easy to use and is large enough to strain 2 boxes of pasta. I like how the bottom has an extended area so it does not sit flat on the bottom of the sink. Customer service was great from the seller as well (Kavajo Internaitonal)!

Handy gadget for mac and cheese and more
This works pretty good I tried the fold up silicone colander for mac and cheese and it tends to keep the water in a bit more than I like. This one has the holes all throughout the bottom and I feel the water drains better from this unit than the others because of the hole placement and trap door. This is my new colander.

Great Invention.
Great improvement over the age old colander. No spilling when moving to the serving bowl.
