When it kicks... it hits.
Hands down the best subwoofer for a medium-sized room. Insanely responsive! It can hit those 20 Hz minimums without breaking a sweat. This thing gets LOUD. It's a hefty boy due to having the amp installed. We call these active speakers, kids. It is compact and will easily slide underneath your desk. I paired my subwoofer with the KRK Rockit 7 Gen 4s and have absolutely no regrets. The flat harmonics make this setup perfect for monitoring and music production.

Does bass <30hz & does it with accuracy.
A perfect match to my KRK V4S4 with the crossover set at 80hz. My JBL LSR310 sub had problems keeping up with the V4S4 output, even at -3db. Turning the JBL up to match output caused it to bottom out on bass heavy movies. The S12.4 stays clean & makes the bass needed to blend with the V4S4 with headroom to spare. Combined they are a soundbar killer. I've never heard a $4k soundbar but I'm guessing that's the starting point to match SQ of my set up. I'm using a Geshelli J3 DAC with V7 Classic opamps & a Topping A70 Pro as the preamp.

Perfect addition to v8’s
Amazing sound. Finally got to pair the 8 inch sub with my krk v8 series 2 monitors I got in 2004, which still to this day, are my daily monitors for my log cabin studio. This added that low end I was lacking. Now just to get a center and surrounds. I think I’ll aim for a small rokit kit for this.

Very nice for music (heavy, solid, no rattles/booms, no hum, perfect back-panel controls)
I was looking to add a sub to enhance the bass in my music. I'm a long-time audiophile who has owned many subs over the decades. My fronts (JBL 530s) are beautiful but have only 5.5" drivers and drop off precipitously below 70hz. The bass in my music is played by instruments, not computers- nothing below 35hz is needed. This placed me in the market for a tight 8" sub. A key attribute I demanded was the ability to defeat the "Standby" setting, as a sub turning on and off is unlistenable to. (Don't believe the BS that you can't hear this.) The KRK 9 emerged and I purchased it. It has a perfect set of back-panel controls. I calibrated and evaluated everything using test-tone webpages and careful listening to music I know by heart, a method easier and far more accurate than YPAO. This sub is heavy, solid (no rattles/ "booming"), no hum, and plays well in the octave I need. Yes, it's expensive, but it actually enhances my sound quality for music. I've attached a photo of the optimal controls when paired with very capable bookshelf speakers. There is a 2009 remaster of "Seconds Out" by Genesis and in the song "Firth of Fifth" you hear clearly and distinguished the bass guitar and bass drum. This is a new revelation to me for an important piece of music. Bravo!

ZERO DISTORTION! The subwoofer's sound is JUST THERE, not in your face. It's perfect!
I had KRK Rokit G5 for a year and used them with a 10" Polk sub. "What's the difference?" I wonder. BIG DIFFERENCE. Regular subs are designed to add "punch" for casual listening. These KRK subs don't do that. They're very accurate, and they don't mess with the sound. They just reproduce it accurately, with excellent clarity you just don't hear in regular subs. For critical listening/mixing/mastering, this is the one to get, if it's the right size for the room. Paired with KRK monitors, it's exactly right. Run XLR or TRS into the sub, then let it do the crossover and feed the output to your monitors. Best possible way to do it.

Massive and Heavy
I was first struck by how huge this thing is, it’s also very heavy. The build quality is great, I would imagine the magnet is a hulking thing, not sure what the cabinet is made of maybe abs plastic perhaps. Now this thing puts out bass you can feel, window rattling bass, oh so much bass! It is also well behaved, within a half hour or less of no signal and she’s in standby mode, not half a day like that garbage Klipsch sub that lasted barely over a year, or that Polk sub that was defective right out of the box! I would recommend this sub very highly, if you’re scared by the price, don’t be, it’s worth every penny, remember, you get what you pay for. Runs circles around my previous two subs.
