Quality Tarot playing cards
Piatnik are Austria's top card makers and it shows. These are quality Tarock (= non-fortune telling Tarot) cards for playing a whole range of outstanding Tarock games from Tapp and Illustrated Tarock to Königrufen and Hungarian Tarokk: the rules for most of them are on Wikipedia. These are the classic games of Viennese coffee house culture. The cards are standard Tarock size - larger than English packs - and have a different composition. There are 54 cards in all of which 22 are tarocks. The rest divided into the four familiar suits of Clubs, Spades, Hearts and Diamonds, but with an unusual twist. Each suit comes with a King, Queen, Cavalier and Jack. The black suits only have the high pips - 7, 8, 9, 10 - and the red suits only have the low pips - Ace, 2, 3 and 4. The reason is historical, but this is now the normal composition of the pack and the rules cater for that. If you're new to Tarock games, start with Tapp Tarock or Dreiertarock and branch out from there. The designs are traditional but beautiful, with Alpine scenes on the tarocks as well as images from around the historical Austro-Hungarian Empire. Be aware they are not the type designed for fortune telling or cartomancy, just for playing great games.

Tarock aus Kakanien (k. u. k. Monarchie Österreich-Ungarn)
