WD 18TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive - USB 3.0, Black

Simple to hook up. Reliable as heck. I have many of this brand and this line (Elements), and have only ever had 2 fail (500Gb size) in the last 20 years or so. 1 failed due to a power outage while transferring files to it. The other was DOA. It's an amazing record for that long of a period. These are my go to hard drives of choice. I use them with my PC, laptops, and my Dish Hopper.

Wow! I love all this space for my work. I can replace my other 4 smaller external drives now. Data transfer is fast. So far it appears to live up to Western Digital standards.

It's the fastest HDD I own although slowest to spin up complete it's self check and let you access it but at least it's not a horrible smr drive. it vibrates the surface it's on so I put it on a washcloth and it's a little better but I have it on the floor and I can hear it downstairs. The vibration is from spinning. the noise from head movements is not too bad. It's designed to stand up so the heat comes out the top vents but make sure you have it somewhere it won't topple over. Honestly i don't know why WD doesn't work with Microsoft to make the experience better. The engineers should be forced to use their own products. If it's always attached to your PC and you reboot if the drive is in standby it spins up to write data before shutting down. Now let's say you disable it so the bios doesn't try to access your drive well it doesn't matter cause windows will try upon booting so you have to wait for it to spin back up anyway. Anytime you have to reboot it will add minutes to the process and lots of extra spin ups which is not good for your drive. heaven forbid your doing updates and you have to reboot more than once. They need to speed up the spin up process (what's with that self check?) and don't have it spin down so much unnecessarily. anytime you try to access the drive if it's spun down the process trying to do so will freeze till it comes up. if you go into device manager for USB storage you can remove the checkmark for windows turning off the drive then it seems to actually do what you set in the power control settings. Despite these downsides the drive has been durable and trustworthy easy to install and bring your data with you and the cheapest way to have a lot of data and avoid the bit rot of an SSD. Just make sure you always safely remove it and keep it away from magnets. if you have a ups plug it in.

Yeah, not sure what other reviewers experienced, but mine came with US plugs, good deal. Hard drives make noise. It is a hard drive.

The power supply only has UK/Europe adapters. There is no way to contact seller to request for the missing part.

Great price for storage and the transfer speed is faster than what I thought it to be.

18T can't go wrong

This item does not come with a US functional electric plug. I used the charger from another WD product and it works fine. I do not understand why Amazon sells it in the US.

I bought this 18TB WD Elements to act as a primary backup for my other external drives. Interestingly, I originally ordered the 18TB WD My Book (B08KY9ZZDG), but I ended up returning it. That model was incredibly loud, and the plastic enclosure felt much cheaper and prone to vibration. By contrast, this Elements version is remarkably quiet and feels far more solid. If you don't need the onboard hardware encryption of the My Book (which can make data recovery or "shucking" difficult if the bridge board fails), this Elements drive is the superior choice. Performance & Benchmarks: I’ve attached a CrystalDiskMark result from my unit. For a high-capacity mechanical drive, these speeds are fantastic: Sequential Read: 207.07 MB/s Sequential Write: 206.93 MB/s Capacity: In Windows, you get approximately 16.3TB of actual usable space. Final Verdict: If you are looking for massive storage that doesn't make your entire desk vibrate, get the Elements 18TB. It’s reliable, fast for an external HDD, and a much better physical build than the My Book equivalent.

Heeeeel veel ruimte, maar datcwistvik van tevoren…:). De harddisk is snel (usb 3.0) en stil. Erg handig om één station te hebben waar alles opstaat. Vanaf dit station maak ik dan back ups op aparte HD’s, zoals een disk voor mijn foto’s en films en een disk voor mijn muziek en overig bestanden. Werkt lekker.
