Works just as expected
I needed to quit chasing my yarn around my living room whole I crocheted! Ordered this as I'd looked in a local store and theirs was plastic with a price tag of almost $20 higher... Came in a plastic bag rather than a box. It was wrapped very well with bubble wrap. I'm not sure what my mailman thought was in the plastic bag though.....He chuckled out loud when he put it on the table... OMG! So, they might want to make the packaging square or something. The quality is great and the wood is very smooth, I've not had any issues of snagging. Weight is sufficient, no tipovers. I read other reviews where some yarn got caught underneath but I have not had this issue yet. Spool spins nicely. Definitely recommend for the price. And it is wood, not plastic junk!

Great product
I love this yarn spinner. It makes it so much easier to crochet you just can’t do the center pull using this device. Some yarns it doesn’t matter how you pull it but if I need to center pull like the red heart all in one granny yarn I just wind it into a cake. I’m so glad I found this. It’s much better than the dangle magnetic yarn spinners.

Doesn’t work with skeins. Only works with yarn cakes.
Great yarn spinner for crocheting. But it only holds yarn cakes. Will not hold skeins of yarn or anything else. Just yarn cakes but I love it because it’s super convenient in keeping your yarn from tangling while crocheting. I glued a weight to the bottom to hold it in place better. Otherwise, it falls over easily because it’s very lightweight. Def Nicely recommend this if youknit or crochet. I regret not getting it sooner.

Spins Smoothly
I really love this little thing. I recently got a hand crank yarn winder because it is easier on my hands and faster than winding yarn balls by hand, but I didn't like the way center pull cakes start to flop. This is the perfect tool for pulling yarn from the outside of the cake. As long as you just let the yarn feed while you work instead of pulling lengths out, I haven't had too many problems with yarn getting caught and wrapped up around the bottom. When I do, I just pop the top piece off and pull the wrapped yarn off the axel. Keep in mind, I am a kind of slow knitter/crocheter, so speedy folks may experience more issues. This thing is pretty light, so I tend to keep one of those grippy things for opening stubborn jars underneath it to keep it from sliding.

The 2nd time around I am very dissappointed
I purchased one of these a year ago. And was extremely pleased with the craftsmanship and the quality of the spinner. So when I needed another I just went to the Amazon buy again option for my previous order and selected the same item. It just arrived today. The wood is still lovely and the craftsmanship looks great. However this new one is noticeably smaller than the previous one. The base seems only slightly smaller but the spinner is as much as a 1/4 to 1/2 inch smaller. I won't be able to inter change the spinners from one base to another, because the smaller one will fit on the larger base. Is it a workable spinner, Im sure it is, Is it what I was expecting. No. If it is not exactly the same item. Amazon. Should not advertise it as such. I am highly disappointed.

Rough Surface
Surfaces are rough, catching yarn fibers. It certainly needed additional sanding and a coat of varnish. Very disappointing.

Very handy little gadget I would never have thought of
Handy little sucker! Family project at Thanksgiving was to dye some white sock blanks with unsweetened Kool Aid which was fun. Then had to use ball winder to make "cakes". All went well until I somehow made a world champion yarn barf of over 1/2 of a skein when knitting directly from the ball. After 3 days of profanity and patience I wound a new ball and centered it on this spinner and have completed an entire pair of socks without a snag or unkind word. I have mine centered in a yarn bowl which keeps it stable otherwise it would probably move around or fall over if freestanding when pulled on. The center is purposely slightly rough so the yarn turns rather than slipping or tightening. Some one else did not like that, but it has a definite purpose.
