Is this the real perfume or a knock off?

I was shopping at Dillard's Dept Store in Knoxville, TN last weekend with family visiting from Europe.  This perfume was on the list of things to buy and take back for a friend because the friend cannot find it in Europe...(should have been my first clue) . Dillards was the last place we stopped to shop for the classic, Red bottle,  "Lauren" by Ralph Lauren Perfume.  The manager of cosmetics and perfume just happened to be working behind the designer fragrance counter.  I asked for Lauren and she said they have not had it in stock for nearly 8 years.  Ralph Lauren stopped producing it in 2011.  She further added they had sold the formula (minus 1 secret floral oil that Ralph Lauren, himself added, the label and rights to manufacture it to a Canadian Company.  The Canadian Company produces affordable cologne and perfume for large drug store chains, some large west coast grocers that have a make up and perfume space, and Target.  To answer your question, while the formula was sold to be reproduced it is missing one small thin, that was too costly for the new company to include, making the original a truly unique fragrance. I think the oil was from a rare, wild lilac that grew only in England or Scotland and the source was becoming depleted as industry and housing invaded those wide open spaces where they grew freely.  So technically it a fence straddler of a knock off .
