This platform seemed like the perfect answer to my needs. And it is just that. I needed something sturdy, resilient, and well-designed to serve as a mobile platform for a new firepit. The Defender is just that. I was very impressed with the design before receipt. I called the manufacturer and happened to speak with the designer/ engineer; became even more impressed. When the Defender arrived, I was completely sold. Just test-drove it for the first time. It protects against the perils that concerned me most and will be wonderfully visible after dark. I also used the defender to plot four mini foundation posts. I used half-foot lengths of 1.5-inch diameter PVC, which I filled. Used the Defender to plot those precisely and to level. I can now always find exactly the same spot on the lawn. The heat resistant mat is the final hedge against any floating embers. The Defender isn't inexpensive, but the quality of manufacture is clearly worth the cost - or it was to me. Would purchase again in a heartbeat.

I bought another deck protector from Amazon before I found the Deck Defender & Grass Guard. It was much more expensive and when it arrived, it was absolute JUNK! The metal work was terrible, they included both 10"x30" fiber panels and 10"x10" fiber panels....and were missing some. The fiber panels were exposed (meaning you had to put the firepit on it) and there is no way those fiber panels would have lasted a season. Plus, touching them was like touching fiberglass where the fibers get under your skin. The riser was only about 1/4" tall and was made of plastic! Huh? I sent it back and Amazon was very helpful in the return and reimbursement, I then found the Deck Defender & Grass Guard. This is a quality product at almost 50% less cost. The metal is well fabricated from stamped truck metal (the kind you see with tool boxes in the back of work trucks) and the riser is about 3" tall made of solid metal. The packaging for shipment was perfect. This product will last for years. We had family over Christmas Eve and had a fire on the deck - the deck being well protected by this product. Even with a 4 hour fire, very hot coals, the area under the firepit stayed nice and cool. Excellent product. I would buy it again without hesitation.

Using it under a Breeo fire pit on a wooden deck. Seems to disperse the heat well, it doesn't get hot underneath. A more erudite buyer used a thermometer I used my hands. Allows me to have people over outside during Covid time with a very hot fire. Last couple of friends came for lunch and stayed until 7 PM at 38 degrees. Hot smokeless fire. No damage to recently painted deck. I will transfer to lawn when I set up the deck for table and chairs in the spring. I'm very pleased. By the way the Breeo fire pit is terrific and made in USA (PA)

Sat too high to use on our deck and the propane firepit didn't really need it anyway. I shifted this to our stained concrete patio and use it with a real wood burning firepit. It works very well!

My Amish built Breeo fire pit sits on top of this base. It produces roaring fires and lots of heat and the base is very effective at protecting the ground underneath it. It is also very shiny and industrial-looking even in cold and clammy climate.

Perhaps I didn't need this because it is sitting on a concrete patio, but am pleased that I purchased it. I subsequently purchased outdoor carpets so the heat shield is actually sitting on the carpet (which is on the concrete patio); the shield will protect the carpet from fire embers/heat. I love it!

I am very pleased with the deck defender. I used it as a heat shield on my wooden deck so I could use my Solo Stove Bonfire. Aside from doing the job, it matched the modern metal look. Delivery was prompt and it feels well built. The pictures on the product page make it seem smaller than it is. I find it to actually be a good size. Too compare measurements to be safe. I think it should a perfect companion to a chimnea or another bonfire who matches the dimensions. Definitely recommend to buy
