OTC Tools 3209 Trilingual OBD II/EOBD & CAN Scan Tool with ABS/Airbag Codes and Definitions

This seems like a “hidden-gem” of a scanner for the price to have ABS & SRS. Older cars you could get these codes by jumping a “Service line” and reading MIL blinks. Most newer cars don’t have that option to my knowledge and need a scanner. I have 3 Hondas: 03 Accord, 09 CRV & 12 Crosstour. It recognized the OBDII, engine, transmission, SRS & ABS modules on the Accrord & CRV. The 2012 recognized all but it scanned the SRS then didn’t show it as a recognized module but no fear: I manually set the vehicle to an 09 Accord & recognized all modules on the 2012. If you have problems with other makes & models, try to manually set-up the vehicle to a different (older) year instead of relying on the Auto VIN feature to see all your modules. Be aware this will only give you the basic ABS & SRS codes at least for Hondas anyway. You only get the main code and no “sub-codes” just like if you counted blinks. Also this will only reset ABS, SRS & engine codes. If your vehicle has specific initialization procedures (airbag modules, seat weight sensors, ABS calibration, etc) this or any entry-level scanner will not do that. Note: to upgrade the unit from the web: download the Scanning Suite 4.3 from OTC model 3210. This will find the correct Firmware for this unit. Also manual is non-existent you only get a “quick-start guide” but OTC, Actron & Bosch scanners all work exactly the same so just download a manual OTC 3208 or 3210 and you can figure it out. A ball-drop on OTCs part they didn’t update the website or give you a manual. If you’re technically savvy, used a scanner before and don’t mind jumping through a few minor hoops to get it to work I highly recommend – it’s great for the price-point.

OTC 3209 is a professional tool that thankfully DOES NOT require a smart phone or App to see all the vehicle data like a lot of scanners out there. Best features are: 1) Powers up and Identifies the vehicle immediately upon hooking up the OBDII connector, 2) Read and display LIVE sensor data (great for diagnosing O2 sensors), 3) Easily check All available I/M Monitors (Inspection and Maintenance) have passed for state inspection before you waste your money or a trip to the repair shop, 4) Identifies the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) codes and easily clears them, 5) Updateable and includes the update cable, a computer is needed, 6) 800# for tech support, 7) Clearly written PDF manual downloadable online from OTC website, and 8) No batteries required to power up. As a former mechanic, I highly recommend this tool for its easy intuitive display and professional output for a novice or seasoned mechanics. A great tool that everyone should own and can help you save money.

I have used OTC tools for 40 years. Outstanding quality and the best specialty tools on the market, in my opinion.

I purchased this unit to reset the airbag message in my 2013 Mercedes. The unit see's the message, but I can't scroll down to erase them. I go to the company website and see a new software version is available. I down load, install, and launch their program and only get FTP error messages. I contacted customer support only to find they don't offer support for this unit or their software. Don't waste your money.

Works on everything I've tried it on- up to a 2011 Odyssey. My old OTC scanner was about 12 years old and wouldn't work on newer CANBUS vehicles, or read ABS or SRS codes. This new one does all that and at a price that was quite fair. The cable is not removable like my old scanner, but my fears about the cable being damaged never came to pass in the 12 years I had it so I won't hold that as a negative. It does show real-time readings of the individual data points but does not graph them. Menus are a little hard to decipher at first, not as intuitive as one could hope. The screen could be a bit bigger too. Let's be realistic, this is a bargain price unit so don't expect lots of the newest features. It does come with a data cable to link to the PC for updates.

This thing doesn’t check or display anything about the airbags I’ve used it in two different vehicles and it doesn’t do jack. It’s just a basic OBD so for the price and it’s OK but they lied false advertising does not read airbag
