I bought 2 books to use for GRE prep - this one and the 5lb. I also got the Kaplan flashcards and bought the Manhattan Prep phone app. I primarily studied using this book. I memorized words, went through all of the lessons (most of them a few or several times over), and learned or relearned math I haven't had to do in a long time. I studied my butt off for 6 weeks straight. I felt confident going into the test between all of the materials I used and studied incessantly - but then when it came time to take the actual exam, over 90% of the material I learned was NOT on the exam.My scores were 146 V, 141 Q.To say I am angry and frustrated is an understatement. I cannot believe how hard I studied these materials, only for most of it (almost all of it) to not have been needed. I can now do math I have never ever had to do and I know hundreds of words I have never needed to know and I can pick apart sentences, etc. but in all honesty, I feel like I wasted the $205 to take the test, and wasted the $25-$35 per book, plus the $14.95 for that app and the flashcards. I am so beyond annoyed.

My son got this book to prepare for the GRE. We considered some programs rather than a book (including Princeton review, which he got to sample for free through his university), but ultimately wanted to spend less money. Well, he LOVED this for the online resources. He said he didn't actually use the book at all, but online there were excellent practice tests and tons of test questions online, along with test-taking strategy videos. An early assessment predicted 320 for him, but he ended up with 335! :) This is more of a program than a book, and you could save a bit by buying the kindle version, since all you need is the online access.

This book has helped me start fires on many occasions. I plan to buy the next edition next year so I can keep the campfires going when I go camping again!

Explanations for the math section are not based in math, especially the probability section. The writers used more intuition that math for that section making it useless.

After taking 3 hours and 45 minutes to take my test I click submit and get an error message. I close out because the software was auto saving. I go to try and resume and get the message "internal server error". I have been calling and e-mailing Kaplan support for help and they have not been able to provide any meaningful help (they offered to reset the test after I have spent almost 4 hours working on this one with no guarantee that I wouldn't get the same issue). I have a ticket open with them. I have been waiting on an answer from their support team since Monday morning, it is now Thursday Afternoon. I was told it would be 72 hours for them to review. Every time I call I get disconnected, or transferred and the whole process starts all over again.I want to understand where I need to improve based on the diagnostic test 1 that I cannot get my results from because of this issue. I am now scared to take any other practice tests with the Kaplan software because of this experience. I would urge everyone considering this book or any Kaplan products to consider an alternative because they are unable to provide any technical support.
