Ambient Weather WH31SM Soil Moisture Sensor for WS-2000, WS-5000 Weather Stations

Works GREAT until you run over it with the lawnmower. Then it doesn't work so well. Did this twice with two different sensors. Needs a feature that connects better with my brain to not run over it, twice.

This sensor was easy to add to my system. The test the instructions recommended showed the calibration was correct out of the box. I have no way to confirm its accuracy in the ground, but the readings seem reasonable. In any case, I believe it will help me determine how often I should water my avocados!

My unit works great, right out of the box. The base unit recognized the new sensor immediately and the calibration appears to be accurate, right out of the box. (I compared the reading to an old soil moisture meter I had lying around the house)

Ordered 3 soil moisture sensors. All three passed the 0% reading test immediately after powering up however none of the 3 passed the 1 hour water submersion test. After 1 hour, the readings were 65%, 61% and 61%. I contacted Ambient Weather support who suggested I tap them on the counter a few times and give them 24 hours. I allowed them to soak for an additional 72 hours before I could contact them again on Monday when they re-opened. I was advised to submit a RMA through Ambient Weather's website. I attempted to do so but it was unable to find my Amazon order number that I was instructed to use. I called support again and was told it was a glitch and to wait another hour before re-submitting. I gave up on Ambient Weather support and will attempt to replace through Amazon but it's a bit concerning that all 3 were defective.

Great sensor no connectivity issues. Accurate sensing well made especially with the probe housing. Only issue is a bit expensive and wish they have a additional separate screen monitor in addition to the ambient weather console so we can monitor all moisture sensors in one glance.

I have been enjoying my WS-2000 weather station for several years and love being able to get real-time data happening right in my own backyard. I recently discovered the soil sensors available as an accessory. This has been an great addition to my weather station and lets me monitor my vegetable garden and newly planted tree right from my kitchen to be sure both are being adequately watered. You can even set up text alerts to notify when levels drop to specified parameters.

We have not had rain for a month and even after calibrating it, my gauge still reads 22%. When I water my garden it goes up to 35%, so I am not sure how accurate it is. Will keep experimenting with it, as the rest of the Ambient system works great and I am very happy with it.
