It works by plugging it into a computer (USB port). There is a program you install for free from scanmarker. You then simply highlight the section in your books or paper that you want to read aloud, copy or translate and it does so by either the actual program or by putting it into a word/pages doc. I use it for my dyslexia and it has been very helpful.

Will this scan hand written text?

Hi, Sorry for the delay - The OCR function wouldn't recognize handwritten text. You would be able to scan line by line using the image feature though the text won't be editable afterwards. Let us know if you have any other questions! - Scanmarker

Does the scanmarker recognize micr e-13b font ? i know that it works with cmc-7 font, but it works also with micr e-13b font ? thanks

Hi does it translate a chinese book into english? also does it translate,japanese, latin,russian,greek too?

I have not personally tried this feature yet but according to the manufacturer's website it can. These are the languages there supposed to be supported: Azerbaijani, Brazilian, Bulgarian, Chinese (S Vert), Chinese (Simple), Chinese (T Vert) Chinese (Traditional), Corsican, Croatian, Czech Danish, Dutch, English, Esperanto, Estonian, Fijian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Japenese Vert, Korean, Korean Vert, Latin, Latvian, Lithuanian, Moldovan, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Scottish Gaelic, Serbian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish, Swedish, Swiss German, Tagalog, Turkish, Ukranian, Xhosa, Zulu.
