Q: will these stay on 1 1/14 inch knobs?

No. A one year old can pull and open the cabinet.

Q: We only need two of these, and then we have ONE cabinet with only one door that this won't work on, what to use, tape ones don't hold?

I don’t see why not. They still open a little bit, but not enough for anything to really fall out.

My cat figured these out. He would bang the pantry door over and over and each bang put enough pressure on this to loosen it a bit. After banging for 3-5 minutes he had the pantry open and was on the top shelf diving into the huge canister of Temptations cat treats. I currently have 3 of these on the handles and that is enough that he gets discouraged with banging before they all pop open. However it is a hassle for me to have to open and close three of these every time I want something from the pantry so I'm still looking for a better solution.
